I have used the One Day Pass and 30 Day Pass solution with many friends who wanted to use the QF J lounges at SYD/MEL, and BA Lounges in Europe as well as ACs in the US on QF metal. So you purchase it for your wife on the day of travel.

Thank you, I will purchase the pass for my wife.

just in case anyone is still wondering - i tried to get into the ba galleries lounge and they told me that i wasn't eligible because i hadn't flown in from Singapore and this wasn't a connecting flight

Is that not as per the QF guidelines that were published ~6 months ago?

I'm flying with my family (mrs yqy, miss yqy (8YO) and miss mini yqy (1YO)) on QF2 back to SYD in Y. What are my chances taking two guests (Mrs YQY & Miss YQY) to the BA F Lounge in LHR T3? Is it worthwhile ringing QF prior to organise access? or the lounge directly?

I understand, miss mini yqy doesn't get counted as a guest as she's under 2.

If you are QF Platinum aren't you allowed to bring two guests? They won't qualm about a 1 y.o. as a third. Am I not correct in the rules?

No you cannot guest more than one person (over the age of 2) into the BA Galleries Lounges.
I say this from bitter experience in T5 at the end of 24 hours in whY SYD-LHR :(
