Lounge access restricted - too many QP members that day?

Hi AFFers

Parents have Qantas Premier cc which gives 2 passes to lounge per year, they use it every year for their annual pilgrimage to the USA every October. DF tried to link the passes online to their flights and couldn’t. He phoned QF customer service who advised “we are unable to provide access due to the lounge being in use by QP membership. You are welcome to join QP for access”

Can I say, WTF? It can’t be full if they are happy to sell him membership, so is there a limit to how many pass members they allow per day or something? DF understandably upset as that is their little treat for their trip, only book flights in Y.

Also, #endrant

INT j, QF11. Busy flight I know.

That is strange. I didn't think the SYD INTL J lounge had been subject to capacity constraints like the SIN lounge. Maybe QF have decided that is one of the ways of addressing the overcrowding problem in that lounge.

Could it be for a particular day? I just linked some passes to a flight for that lounge this morning with no issues. It was even for a flight that departs only around an hour after QF11.

Yes I think it’s that day. October 18, the Rydges at the airport wants a higher than usual room rate the night before, too.

Do the terms and conditions of the credit card stipulate access is conditional or may be denied?

I would suggest it does. I’m not trying to throw the toys out of the pram, just bewildered by this as I hadn’t heard of it before.

During school holidays you have Platinum and Gold members bringing in their partner plus unlimited kids under 18.... maybe they anticipate it will be full?

Ah, yes. That must be it. Explains the hotel too. Not having kids I forget about that’s stuff. Thanks

Lots of very expensive and booked out hotels around Sydney's west at that time. Seems to be Rugby League World Cup 9s on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 causing that issue - may be affecting expected lounge loadings as well.

If it was for the lounge in Sydney, that is odd. I just bought that credit card and it does not give you access to the LAX lounge (which is the only one I want to use!), but it is meant to give you access to any other QF club lounges.

... the exclusion of the LAX lounge is because it's NOT "any other QF club lounge" it's a oneworld lounge run by QF. It's a subtle difference but enough to matter at times like this.

Are the restrictions in QF Business International Lounge in SIN still very acute? I'm on QF2 from LHR to SIN (then to BNE) in October 2019 and then on QF1 from SIN to LHR in November 19 but hold on QC membership. I added my name to the lounge list just to make others aware I'm around (and usually and gift one on the same flight) but the recent stories of late rather do cause some slight alarm. Should I be cautiously optimistic due to the added seats in the present lounge or perhaps should I be prepared for a persona no grata on both attempts to gain access???

[Insert nervous face here]

Have heard from others that the new First lounge in SIN is opening earlier than the proposed November date? Is that just a rumour that has been sent out to the web to keep punters happy or has anyone got any confirmation that this might be the case? If so, that might give a glimmer of hope - even if I'm not yet able to graze in those heavenly pastures just yet.
