Hey all,

With SIA’s lounges now being made available for Velocity Gold’s I wanted to put together a list of what lounges were available to me as a non Gold Lounge member. So far I have come up with:

  • Virgin Australia – all domestic Lounges by presenting Velocity card and DJ boarding pass.
  • Air NZ – Any Air NZ Koru Club lounge so long it is on a Trans Tasman ticket
  • Delta – Skyclub access available when travelling on a VA or DL ticket
  • Etihad – Unknown but doesn’t look like any access
  • Singapore – Unknown at this stage but doesn’t look like any access
I would also like to know the number of Guests that a non Gold member is allowed to bring in. So far I have:

And finally, how does one gain access to the Air NZ and Delta lounges when we don’t have a flashy Gold card to show? When accessing the DJ lounges, I know that they do a check on my Velocity account. Do the Air NZ and Delta lounges do the same thing or will I show my Red or Silver card and be refused access because they can’t access my Velocity account? Worst case would be that I would carry a print out of my Velocity page and lounge access details but I wouldn’t want to rely on it.

Thanks for any and all help!

Not in the past, it was loaded onto the Velocity card.

Which was fine previously but doesn't seem suited to the current arrangements with partner airlines.

I am hoping that the Velocity relaunch will bring new Lounge cards for those who are on Silver or Red. I do find it interesting that the Delta site refers to Virgin Australia Club members rather than Lounge members.

PAX who are entitled to access the Virgin Australia lounge will be granted access to the Air New Zealand lounge by showing their boarding pass and Velocity or Virgin Australia lounge membership card.

Whilst there is no need to be a Velocity Gold Member, non-tierd Guests who have purchased a Virgin Australia lounge membership are only able to access Air New Zealand International Lounges when travelling on a trans-Tasman journey (this can be marketed by either DJ or NZ).

Velocity Gold and Virgin Australia lounge members are entitle to take one Guest into the Air New Zealand lounge.

Hope this helps!

I had no problem getting into SYD and AKL NZ lounges this week (flying on NZ as DJ Gold SYD-AKL-SYD), but my colleague (Lounge member) was refused entry in Sydney on his card, but I kindly let him join me.:p

Not having a flashy card could have been a problem. I don't recall anything special appearing on his BP. Mine showed "DJ-G".

I tried to clarify if access for DJ Lounge members was OK, but they looked at me as if I was from Mars. Probably some early teething problems there.

Hi JB007,

Where does it mention lounge members (non Gold) get access to the Delta sky clubs when flying VA or DL?? I've looked everywhere and I cant for the life of me find that bit of info. In fact it clearly states on the VA website that Sky Club access is only for Gold and J class passengers.

Would be a handy benefit if correct so I hope you can point me in the direction of this info!

Thanks,

Boof1

I may have misinterpreted the Delta Skyclub website but if you go to the Delta page for Skyclub locations, the bottom of the page has Virgin Australia Club access. It indicates That VA Club members have access when traveling on VA or DL flight numbers.

But the heading says Club access and could be interpreted as access to DJ lounges when on a DL codeshare for Skyclub members but it also refers to VA Club members.

So as part of the relaunch, it sounds like the Lounge will become a Club and based on the info above, Lounge (or club) members will be getting a card to display as appropriate. This should then avoid the unacceptable event of not being allowed access to Koru Clubs because Air NZ can't get to see your Velocity account.

In any event I have added a printout of my Velocity membership page to my carry on. But with a trip to the states and several DL flights coming up soon, I hope that there is a better solution. Worst case though is that I will buy a 30 day Skyclub pass.

Might I suggest an easier way to get into Air NZ lounges would be to have Star Gold status and be flying a Star airline? I can see why NZ staff are having a problem with DJ flyers.

Much as I love DJ (!), it doesn't yet come up to the standards of a Star Alliance airline, in Y class at least.

That’s a bit like suggesting someone pay for Admirals Club to get into AA lounges, even though they live in Australia and fly with Qantas generally.
