If I go on a first class redemption flight from SIN-DXB on the redeye leaving at 0140, how early can I potentially check in (without checked baggage) and access the EK lounge and QF J lounge (if at all) in SIN?

Bonus question: What is the probability of Jetstar flight MEL-SIN being cancelled? Enough to make me leave Melbourne a day earlier?

I'm considering changing my redemption to an EK F redemption from Asia to Europe, connecting in SIN with Jetstar.

Many thanks

EK early checkin at the Jewel opens from Noon to 10pm.

It says the 0050 departure you can check in the day before, but it doesn't say anything about the 0140 departure.

Just check-in online?
This sounds like a petty question but how long are the airline lounges willing to put up with you "abusing" their lounges? If I checked in online then presented myself at 7am the previous day with a boarding pass that read 0140, would they let you in? I would imagine airlines, especially Qantas, are known for their infinite and unparalleled stinginess.

Well, EK will kick you out around 10:30a when they close before reopening again around 4pm (AFAIK).

I think QF J opens around 2pm and the F lounge shortly after.

If you put jetstar into the same award ticket as Emirates you’ll get your bags checked all the way through. So at most you’d just need to visit the airside transit counter and pick up your emirates boarding pass if you haven’t already got it.

Then head off to the lounge!

Plenty of pax with very long transits. TBH there’s only - usually - so much food and drink you can consume… so the cost is incremental and airlines don’t seem worried about it.

I'm hoping to not check in baggage at all! (But do Jetstar strictly weigh your carry-on?!?)
Jetstar won't be an award ticket - I'm happy to pay $609 for the hop between MEL and SIN.
Alternatively, I could head home for a few days and then get a redemption ex HKG, is the CX F lounge in its current form as good as the Qantas F lounge in SIN? And is it open longer?

IME if you are flying on EK you will not get access to any CX F as EK is not part of OW. OW lounge access is available if on a OW marketed flight and carrier operated.

If you are in jetstar business class likely no issues with cabin bags provided they don’t look overly large or heavy!

In the main cabin bags are ruthlessly weighed!

The CX F lounges in HKG beat the QF F lounge in SIN any day of the week. But you need to be on oneworld for those.

@drcam if you are after F lounge access and don't care about a positioning flight consider BNE-NRT, or CNS-NRT they are both cheap. If you leave from NRT EK run their own lounge and it is a standard EK lounge, similar to MEL, SYD, BNE or anywhere else in the world other than DXB which is completely different. If you are not travelled through DXB there are 3 F lounges in T3. IMO the better EK option from JP is out of HND at around midnight, EK uses the JL F lounge it is also one of the routes that the 'game changer' is often used on.

The transfer between NRT-HND normally takes 2-3 hours and is very easy via train or bus. That been said if I was going JQ to NRT I would most likely fly in the day before and spend a day in TYO or a day trip to a place I haven't been to. Also EK flights out of JP (either airport) have a smaller in flight menu options than the standard multi course EK F offering.

There are no redemption flights ex HND for the time that I'm going, as far as I know.

Oh, there actually are. They just didn't appear on seats.aero last time I checked. My bad.
So if I buy the max pack from BNE-NRT I get lounge access to the QF international lounge in Brisbane? I'll have o think about it.

When you say smaller in flight menu options - you mean fewer options or a simpler (I mean one-course only) meal full stop?

It’s the flight departure time, so it’s kind of a light meal service and breakfast. You can access all EK menus, by route and flight number here: First Class dining | Dining | The Emirates Experience | Emirates Australia

It’s still a substantial three course meal on departure, plus the caviar service. Just not as elaborate as some of the full lunch and dinner services on other routes.

Out of HND they release on the EK schedule and it is currently up to 31 May (xHND). EK can also be a bit finicky on what shows on the QF site, sometimes they are there day after day and then just disappear. I booked HND-DXB-LHR last week, it was a bit of a pain but got there in the end. The second image (expert flyer) is my flight and was auto seated in 1K. I will change to 2A however this is blocked on the EK site, the agents can over ride it (image 3). Calling EK when on an F ticket is not like calling QF, with EK you just get straight through, I will also change my QF number to EK (no status) just for the free wi-fi, again you have to do this over the phone.

Maybe I could take advantage of Fiji Airways cheap one way deal to Tokyo and then spend a day or two seeing bits of Japan I have yet to see.

I can't see them serving Japanese food on FJ though haha

I will not disagree however IME some EK flights with around a midnight departure time will offer the standard decadent meal service which I cannot normally get through and on others it is a lighter option. From the flights I have been on I think it may also be based on the route.

that is true. I was actually thinking after I posted that I had a very late night departure from Singapore and we had the full menu available!
