Looming Jet Fuel Shortages?

I have to say I'm just a little bit concerned about my Europe trip next month.

QF SYD-CGK, TK CGK-AMS, BA ATH-KUL and TR KUL-SYD. What are the chances of all that happening in the current environment?

The answer is.... who knows.

One would think that as no war zone (currently) is involved, insurance might help...

OK guys, you've convinced me. I'll cancel everything and book a couple of weeks at the Meriton Sufers (or not).

A month is a long way aways in the current environment. As @Pushka notes, if you held the insurance before the war started, it may still cover you, and if you can hold out and see if the airline cancels/makes changes, the odds of them at least attempting to make things right are good. I wouldn't book any non refundable accommodation, but then I basically don't ever do that.

We're in a similar boat though - mum in law is attempting her first solo travel in about 20 years, flying SQ SYD-MAN rtn next month, and our own Euro trip is meant to happen in August. We're all at the mercy of a madman's whims, and our best hope for a return to sanity is probably regime change in all three theocratic dictatorships.

But likely when booked and when taking out the Insurance cover, it was not a known event. I have multiple intra Europe flights booked in June and non cancellable tours.
Agree.

But there will come a point where insurance will pay cancellation costs prior to your departure, rather than risk you making it overseas and becoming stranded there.

I’d expect that to kick in if fuel shortage became real and airpines couldn’t guarantee schedules.

Actually MstrQS2 was originally on AZ but that flight was cancelled and he was then put on BA. Reason was fuel.

I haven't got the full story as yet just dribs and drabs as he is gallavanting through Italy.

Hopefully that is worst case scenario.

A month ago there were people saying that Australia would completely run out of jet fuel and diesel by the end of April. Some even said by Easter. So it is perhaps not as dire as some would like us to believe.

The only people saying that were the ‘experts’, academics, media, and the opposition.

Voices of reason didnt get an airing.
