Looking for cheap flight to NYC for September 11 memorial

As a few of you know I was at the World Trade Centre on September 11, 2001 After thinking about it quite a bit I have decided to head over for the 10th anniversary memorial.

If any of you savvy folks who are good at finding cheap fares can find a cheap return one departing Perth on Friday the 9th and returning on/about Monday the 19th I would be grateful! Preferably on something that will give me QF status credits, but if it's hundreds of $ cheaper on other airlines then I will take that.

Best I've found so far is $2100 on EK. Fingers crossed there is something better out there.

The hard part is that Perth and NYC are almost directly opposite each other on the earth. So it will be a long journey and you don't have a lot of time to wait for cheap connecting flights.

The cheapest option is probably getting to Honolulu and then getting a domestic fare to NYC. Jetstar has a sale on at the moment, you could probably make it for AU$1400 return (via Sydney), but I don't think the flight timings would fit. Also could consider Air Pacfic. Then find the cheapest US domestic flight to New York or close by like New Jersey.

But honestly I think EK is your best option. Pay a bit more but avoid the stress of multiple connecting flights.

This is the best I can come up with, good airline and a decent flight and connection.

Would be inclined to go with EK via DBX , one stop to JFK compared to about $400 more for QF going via SYD/MEL/LAX

I'm flying PER-SYD-LAX-JFK on 30 August. I'll be in NYC for 9/11 - I'm actually staying at the World Center Hotel which is right next door (stayed there before and was happy with it for the price).

Who is the US Miles promo with? I'm not sure that I've received any info on that one - but it sounds interesting!
