Hello everyone, I have been keeping an eye on the list but have been busy with a close family member in hospital. My problem is finding the best flights (price wise) Melbourne(YMML) to Miami in Florida 22-23 Feb and back on the 2 March. The prices at the moment are completely ridiculous. A J flight was not possible from LAX-MIA and also very expensive (I got quoted near 12 Thousand return. Are there better options with a different airline? I would love some feedback if anyone cares to share their thoughts.

What is the best option to purchase a cashiers cheque in Australia or US? Which banks do a better job the customer. The institution in Miami do not accept Credit cards  only Cashiers Checks.

I would look at FJ and tacking flights on each end of this which is $3400 AUD

That's about $8400 from Melbourne to Miami and back. In Business. Fiji airlines

For 11400 I can get around the world in Business on Qantas with added benefit SC and Points

No it's not, you need to be a bit sharper with what you're doing:

NAN-LAX return $3400
LAX-MIA AA first USD$1200

MEL to NAN won't be $3000

Ah ok

I learn slowly sorry. I rang the Fijian airlines booking system that's what I got quoted. That is flying Fijian all the way.

Just used AFG in the states to book ultra low airfare in F/J using Thai and LH, if anybody interested. These will be flights that don't earn SC or points but are very cheap. They trumped my best airfare and put me in first on the Asia - Europe leg. Really if everything goes to plan this is something that I can envisage doing and at the same time saving lots of Dough!! Oh I am not affiliated so I will give updates on this as flights get flown.

Bye bye WP nothing demotivates you more than dropping down from WP1. I may have stayed with OW QF if WP1 was retained by being comped due to large amount of previous flights in years gone by. I was not far off anyhow. Rant end that plus recent enhancements devaluations of QF points take their toll

You might want to check that AFG mobs reviews, some horror stories out there.

Yes I heard but not all bad and not all good. Therefore it's all on the CC card Amex with travel insurance so if any dramatic problems will rebook.

But hope it does not get to that stage

Still better then being gouged $13700 by QF for all business via LHR.

I think the obvious choice is a one-stop service via Doha on QR for A$7,610 return in J on the QR website. You might need to be a bit flexible with your dates as DOH-MIA is only a 4-day per week service.

Ok no issues with boarding Thai airline flight to Bangkok

AFG is good enjoying experience

The flights you're on sound like they just bought lifemiles or US DM and charged you for the privilege. You could have saved even more and done it yourself with no risk.

I am amazed that anyone would use AFG on this forum, when there are so many other options on offer that are cheaper at the moment, and result in the same tickets. Last time I looked they appeared to charge a 100% premium, I suppose that's the cost of the knowledge acquired.

I fully realise this as u do not have the time to book this stuff at short notice it is way cheaper than ( over 50%) cheaper in fact to a similar QF flight in just J, I am in First!

Having said that I am all ears for those other options. Any suggestions ?

I think they did charged in US dollars for points.
I would have gone with Turkish airlines or Even Finnair but in all J class, I was happy to get F at the 1000 usd cheaper than a real ticket in J.

Happy to report my first leg(trip) into Europe was very interesting, when compared to a QF trip in J. A bit poky for room but otherwise the cabin was 50% full.
Thai airlines are ok. Food is good and first time to use star alliance lounge in Bangkok. ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1399770187.257276.jpg

The Flight to Frankfurt was empty so this is what AFG give you. Not bad!
The LH lounge in Frankfurt is way better than what I have seen in Melbourne or Sydney's Flounge. May just be a rookies eyes......first time everything looks pretty. Love their slumber rooms
