Hello fellow AFFers!
I'm starting to look at J fares from SYD to YYZ for May next year. My preference is to stick with a OneWorld carrier. So far, I can get CX for about $8.3k. Is this a good price? What price range would be considered a very good J fare? I know that fares to Canada tend to be more expensive compared to fares to the USA and I've managed to snag J fares to JFK for about $6.5k in the past. Ideally, I'd love to get a fare for under $7.5k. Is this realistic? Out of all the airlines that offer flights to YYZ, CX is probably my preferred choice. It has a very good J product and I bypass any stops in the USA. They also have very good connections via HKG.
Any comments, suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

You can do this routing in J for a far lower price, but obviously not if you restrict yourself to One World.

The only thing cheaper at the moment is PAL. They are about $3k cheaper but not OW and also much longer travelling time. I'm hoping that there will be some sales over the next few months.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If you think that the only flight option less than $8300 from SYD-YYZ in J is PAL, then you are not looking hard enough. There are at least 7 options under 8k. Geez, you can even do Korean for under $5990.

Or buy Alaska points during their current 40% bonus and fly in J return on cx for around $3000 subject to award availability though...

If you're not wedded to *O, MU looks like it has a decent fare. Probably have to get a travel agent to construct it for you though.

Sometimes you need to create your own 'sale'. If you want to stick to OW carriers one way would be to do the following:

SYD/HNL on JQ Business fare with a plus bundle to earn points & SC or alternatively as you are QF WP, if you have points to burn a Classic Award in Star Class on JQ is 57,600 points plus about $230.00 approx in fees.

HNL/SJU on AA KUPP fare

SJU/DTW or BUF on AA KUPP fare - I haven't price these but in a lot of cases flying to a city in the US such as Buffalo or Detroit can sometimes be heaps cheaper than Canadian cities such as YYZ in your case.

YYZ/HKG/SYD on CX by purchasing AS Miles or doing a QF Partner Award on CX if you would rather burn existing points than shell out funds to purchase miles.

Of course you could do it the other way around flying outbound via HKG on CX, then a KUPP or two with Hawaii as a stopover on the return. Flying in the direct HNL/SYD is a day flight unlike the other direction which is overnight.

Also Fiji Airways to LAX for ~3700 return in business, then add a fare to YVR. Points and status credits to Qantas still (at least I hope!)
