Hi All,

Just reviewing out travel plans to Europe booked for May , I have booked my Europe tickets using Qantas points all booked under classic reward flights . There are 3 different booking reference nos. as i booked them as the classic award tickets became available as below
Leg 1 Mel-Sin- Mel
Leg 2 Singapore-Doha- Vienna
Leg 3 Paris-Dubai-Singapore
I understand cancellation charges are 6000 points per passenger , does this mean i will be charged 6000X3 points per passenger or juts 6000 points per passenger for all 3 cancellations.
Can we pay cash instead of points for the cancellations? does anyone know how much do 6000 points translate to in terms of AUD

Thanks

I've long since accepted that you have to wait forever for cash refund from Qantas for cancelled flights (and am still waiting for one longer than 6 months ago), but in the past points have always been refunded fairly quickly (within a day or two).

Last week I had to cancel a Qantas domestic points booking because itinerary changes forced on me by Qantas were totally impossible. But ... nothing! So ... phoned Qantas today, the agent confirmed my booking was "on a list" and should be completed within "a few weeks."

I struggle to comprehend how such incomptence is even possible. With cash refunds ... well, at least the delay doesn't stop you from making new bookings. There's an (unethical in my view) incentive for them to delay for as long as possible to improve their cash flow. But with points it essentially means I can't now make an award booking for who knows how many weeks.

Memo to Qantas: have you not heard, there's this wonderful new invention called computers ....

After my trip to Australia was postponed for 3 years due to the pandemic, I attempted to use one of my Qantas credits to purchase a ticket and was told by the agent that I could not use this particular credit because a refund was going to be issued to my credit card instead.

After purchasing a new ticket, I learned that this was erroneous--no refund was going to be issued.

I complained to the help center because I had tried in good faith to use the credit, and only purchased a new ticket because I was told that the old ticket was being refunded in 6-8 weeks to the original form of payment.

Now I was out over 1000 AUD because, living in the states, there is no possibility of my using this credit.

Since then I have spent countless hours trying to get the refund that was promised me--including composing messages to the Care Center and waiting on hold for up to an hour to explain my predicament.

I have twice received emails from Qantas Customer Care promising me that my refund had been issued (2/9/23 and 5/8/23) "in approximately 14-21 business days"--needless to say, the months have rolled by without any refund being issued. I wonder if @AFF Editor would take up my cause?

Since you paid with your credit card, just contact your credit card company and ask them to initiate a charge back. That's a million times easier than trying to deal with Qantas.

I had to cancel a Oneworld classic flight reward a couple of weeks ago. I received the "Your refund has been processed" email last Friday, and the taxes have been credited back to my card. I'm still waiting on the points though - is this normal, or should I follow-up? In the past, I've had points credit within a day and the taxes take weeks.

IME, it's the points that come back instantly and the $ comes within 7 days. It'd be good to call and check

Points normally come back first.
