Hi all,

Sorry for what is probably a silly question. Received some good news with regards to the career and so want to plan a short getaway to the Maldives with the missus in January. Looking at award availability, thinking of redeeming some saver J awards from PER-SIN and then purchasing a Y fare from SIN-MLE with SQ (some good sale prices at the moment) as there's limited availability in terms of saver award for this.

The award flight I'm thinking of is scheduled to arrive in SIN at 07:20am and the separate, purchased fare departs SIN at 10:05am (i.e. 2hrs 45mins).

We would probably be carrying carry-on baggage only, so am I right in assuming we would be able to online check-in prior to leaving Perth for both flights, stay airside and change terminals (arrive T3 and departs from T2) and go straight to our gate? Or would we have to clear immigration and re-check in given the bookings would be on separate PNRs?

I imagine it should be enough time even if we do have to clear arrivals immigration and re-check in, however thought I'd check to see others experience :)

Thanks!

If it was another similar website/forum to AFF (flyertalk) by now someone would be advising against it as you are on separate tickets and you are not protected in case your flight from PER is delayed . However this is AFF and we say go for it!!

Even on separate tickets you should be OK, and should be able to through check luggage from PER (if you decide to take checked luggage) and probably even get your boarding pass for the MLE sector at Perth checkin. If flight is delayed SQ have no obligation to protect you, but as you are arriving in J and transferring from SQ to SQ, in all likelihood they will look after you.

When I saw the thread title, I was expecting a question about transferring under an hour or the like.

With 2h45 you almost have time to go into Singapore for breakfast! :)

Yeah, I'd say you would likely be fine. Even if you were unable to check in for both legs in PER, just visit one of the transfer desks at SIN. No need to clear immigration.

I think minimum connection time in SIN for SQ-> SQ connection on the same ticket is 50 minutes or something similar.

Thanks for all the helpful and entertaining replies, all! Much appreciated! :)

We will go ahead with this connection if sticking with this itinerary, however my wife may be able to get a little extra time off work which would give us a longer break - so thinking Japan if that's a go.

There is little advantage in checking in online if you are leaving Perth in J. Consider just checking in at the J counter and also getting them to check you in for the SIN-MLE flight. They could also connect your baggage which means the missus can pack all of her shampoos etc. without worrying about the 100ml limits.

Just a thought.
