I will be returning from the UK (London but can depart elsewhere) in early October to Sydney and I'm looking for an imaginative/cheap one-way flight. A standard economy trip via Asia is now down to about $A770 for a booking in June and I imagine this will be the price offered for October (booked in June/July?). I will be happy with this price but I am looking for advice on other, more imaginative ways to return to OZ. I prefer One World, and I think China Eastern might be too imaginative, but otherwise the options are open.
Any suggestions welcome.

What are you trying to achieve, a quicker trip, more interesting trip with stopovers, better price or shock horror, more points/SC's?

Thanks for your interest. Speed of trip is not a problem - I'm now retired. A lower price is useful but I think current prices are reasonable. An offer with Paypal (20% cashback would be good but that's the luck of the draw). A more interesting trip, with a short stopover, is what I'm after and if it's a bit longer with more points that's OK. As an example, I looked at AKL as a stopover from LHR/LAX and that's only $A150 more than via BKK/SIN. I've also looked at Moscow/Beijing but that could be too imaginative.
Any thoughts or previous experiences will be welcome.

How about JAL LHR - SYD, with a stopover in Narita. One world airline, good fares and can be booked one way. There is a thread or 2 on AFF about what to do with your stopover time.

That's on the right track. I came back that way in August, 2008 on points. The stopover between BA/QF is about 12 hours which is easily enough time for some Tokyo sightseeing. However Tokyo can be VERY hot in August!

I'm looking at doing it the other way from Kuala Lumpur, a few things you could look into.

Kingfisher Airways/Gulf Air to Bombay then Malaysia/Singapore/Qantas from Bombay to Syd via South East Asia. Biman Bangladesh LHR to KUL via Dhaka. BMI oneway to Damascus + Royal Jordanian to BKK/KUL via AMM.

Iran Air to Kuala Lumpur with a stop over in Tehran. Gulf Air via Bahrain.

What about via Colombo (Sri Lanka) - is that still possible?

Aeroflot via Moscow and HKG then pick anyone (CX/QF) HKG-Aus.
