London Arrival: Gatwick vs Heathrow

The train into London from either LHR or LGW is worth considering over the chauffeur depending on your final destination

If time is not an issue then chauffeur door to door is the way to go, especially if you have luggage. Otherwise train can be much quicker and more reliable (but not from LGW if Southern is on strike, which happens quite often).

Personally, I like Easybus from LGW, as it is cheap (can be less than 2 GBP), efficient, and takes me to where I want to go (Earls Court).

LGW is beyond the M25 whereas LHR is inside it (just). In June, I used an EK town car (I flew J) from LHR to my accommodation in Zone 1 to get to my accommodation - the M4 was flowing freely. Given the distance, I'm not sure I'd be game to try that with LGW. You can't beat the Gatwick Express.

I strongly recommend the Heathrow Express if you don't have an alternative means of getting to/from LHR though. Drops you off (or you board, depending on your direction) at Paddington station, W2, heart of zone 1, easy to get from wherever you're going, from there.

Arrived into LGW on CX the other day. Given was in J, there were hardly any queues at that time of the day ~6am. Not sure how it would be like at LHR (suspect the queues would be longer at that time given all the Asia flight arrivals). Furthermore, was going to Earls Court area was a pretty efficient ride on the Southern to Victoria, then change to the Tube (some say you can take the Southern to West Brompton changing at Clapham Junction, or easybus).

Last time I arrived into LHR ~4pm on IB there was a small queue at immigration (not horrendous, but still a queue regardless), and took a Uber service to Victoria which got me there OK, but there was a little traffic on that motorway out of LHR...

So depends on the time of day, and part of London you are going in I reckon... drawback of LGW is that there are no arrivals lounges to use!
