Little things I like

For many years I have had issues with the sewer blocking and required plunging. I also have 4-5 large trees one a ficus with roots everywhere.

Lost count how many arguments I have had with my mum who has root issues from her neighbours trees telling me it's my trees. Finally after 15 years I could not clear it so out with a professional drain cleaner.

Turns out the reflux valve finally needs replacing and my sister who lives in the house likes to use toilet paper in vast amounts which made the valve block quickly as it would not open correctly.

Not sure what we will argue about now but I am glad there where not any tree roots in the sewer. Although they did block the mains a few years ago and thankfully that was not my issue to fix.

Several years ago had a blocked sewer, plumber couldn't unblock it said there's dirt coming up... pipe has collapsed. $15k quote.
2nd plumber tried harder and unblocked, $500 (½hour... Sydney).
We had one plumber and his offsider to check and clear a drain and they used a camera first, lots of Ooo and Ahhs, (as expected for drains with roots) then got the bill for $1000 for camera and drain machine plus 2 x $150 for plumbers. I told them to bugger off since the second fellow did SFA but just sat there looking at his phone and eating sandwiches all the time, never touched the drain or machine. They capitulated and charged only $150 labor. Never used them again. I won't name them but the company has a name of a fish.

Sad when this happens as it sounds like what my sister had out when I was in hospital and got a plumber out through the charity she volunteers at. Told it was going to be all the trees in the backyard and not worth putting a camera down to check Drain cleaner I used got the camera out first as the boundary trap was clear. He was not even sure why they used the access point they did but they where happy to charge the charity $400 for their time and achieve little as it blocked 4 weeks later.

I am a big library user because I couldn't afford to buy the books with the amount I read.

Our local library (as many others) has the option to email them with new book suggestions that are not in their catalogue. Just got an email to say they had ordered what I requested.

:)

Are you a digital or hard copy reader ? I love my e-reader for convenience, but am struggling to find available digital copies of various books at the moment :(

Peak hour traffic in Adelaide stops for a mother duck and about 10 ducklings crossing four lanes of traffic through the parklands. Didn't get a photo because I didn't want to be on the front page of the Advertiser as that person that created chaos

The little thing I like is that now I use a walking stick you don't only see the dopey ones with no manners but you can more easily pick ou the nice people you pass by. today gobsmacked as usually the ones that are nice to you are younger females ie younger than me but I had 2 encounters today that really pleased me.
First went to our club for lunch. Most of the dining area was closed off as being decorated for Halloween. This meant a long walk to the other end of the place to put in the food order. i passed the bar and the young fellow behind the bar said let me take your food order for- they are not supposed to. I actually wanted to do more steps but the fellow needs to get some positive feedback for his good intentions.

second was at Woolworths. Was buying a couple of mangoes but due to my peripheral neuropathy I have great difficulty opening the plastic bags from the dispenser. The young lad beside me took the bag saying I'll do that for you mate. Itwas really appreciated.

So I now know that there is more goodness in the world than I previously thought.

Like above, I was surprised by some kindness shown to me. I was leaning against a wall in the departure area at a gate in Munich airport, no spare seats, waiting to go to Tirana. A middle aged to older person got up and came over to me and spoke in German, I said sorry, I can only speak English, he asked me if I was alright and did I want his seat. My knee was quite sore at that point and my face must have been showing signs of being in distress.
I thanked him for his kindness but declined his offer. It wasn't long until we boarded anyway.

We had a similar experience driving back from Melbourne, before Euroa. I was hungover AF and Mrs Nut was on the peddle, doing a good 115 k's (ok, slightly over but with the flow) when all of a sudden "coughk, ducks" "WTF - DUCKS!" Somehow a family of ducks crossed two lanes of the Hume unscathed with cars doing 115 k's veering around them, us included. "That was mad" was all we could say. We now have extra eyes on that part of the Hume when we're driving.
