Qantas is required to give a period of notice, so if they move the goalpost you could accelerate the status runs

Well the QFF T&Cs say they are meant to provide a notice period for changes, in practice this can no longer be relied upon: none was given for the 2025 changes to loyalty bonus options and nor for the 2024 changes to non-flying lounge guests. Were I in the situation described by @Port Power I would be seeking to qualify ASAP.

In realty however. Surely if there was as large a change as is mooted here by some. It would be a staged process.
IE. A person who was already LTsilver or had 10000 or 12000 credits for example would still qualify and anyone below the imagined new threshold would be stuck with the new target.

It's not how BA did it.

I guess it may well depend on the feedback from VA's brave changes to Velocity.

They did in a way - they double counted under the old and new systems for 12 months for those within striking distance to qualify under the old system

But then, to convert, old to new system, they just retained the percentage already done. So someone 95% of LTG would remain 95% after the change. The way to accrue status credit is different after that, but still achievable. I wouldnt panic if I was close to LTG.

Yes, proportionally your progress remained the same, it was the remainder that was impacted

In saying that, they totally rebased the tier point system rather than just making it revenue based from that point onwards - it wouldn't make sense for QF to do the same if they changed the LTG target unless they changed every other tier's target as well, otherwise they'd just be propelling you towards LTP faster

Also I think I need to fact check myself slightly as I said for 12 months but they announced it in Dec 2024 and it took effect in April 2025, so it was actually "for the 12 months between April 1 2024 and March 31 2025". So it was essentially just that you could qualify under the old system until April 1 2025 which isn't that generous but if you were at 12,000 of 14,000 for example you'd have opportunity to earn 2,000 SCs under the old system. There were also rules about proportionally awarding TPs for existing bookings and all of that, I had a quick skim and my eyes glazed over because I don't wish to know that much about a now dead program, but there were ways and means.

But at the end of the day, all of the projection in this forum about what QFF might do is a waste of time, frankly. Not only has QF leadership ruled it out (see below), but nobody could guess when, how or who so what's the point. I've seen more discussion about QFF's "impending" switch to revenue earn than VA's actual switch

Totally agree. I think that was lost in the change. BA did leave the proportionality of your progress and I’d argue it’s easier to hit than QF LTP.

Yes, loyalty bonus counts (or at least used to)

Just applied a couple of Loyalty bonuses from the past year. It seems like they are still counting towards P1

Incidentally, after 11 and a half years, I've finally made it to LTG via a loyalty bonus carried over from my last membership year (if only those gifted SCs in September had counted, I'd be there already!)

Just the small matter of 60,979 SC to LTP...but given I'm 37 and usually just requalify for WP each year thanks to DSC / strategic connecting flights there's no point going for it.

From here I think the plan is:
- Switch to Avios as my primary currency since it provides flexibility for both QF and VA redemptions, and I usually fly QR internationally.
- Use Y redemptions where possible for domestic narrowbody flying / where a Dom J lounge is not available (especially as I expect lie-flat seats to become increasingly rare on domestic flights as more A321s come online).
- Use J redemptions where possible when a lie-flat seat / Dom J lounge is available.
- Pay cash J for international flights (I usually fly QR to or from non-oneworld hubs, so can access the QR premium lounges via class of service and am not missing out on F lounges except when flying through SIN/HKG).

I've also just received this email from QF - is this a new thing they are doing, or have they sent similar emails in the past for LTG? I'm surprised I got there with only 102 flights (although I am not sure if this is QF/JQ only or includes partners). If it includes partners as well that would mean I'm averaging about 137 status credits per flight (give or take, with a few hundred Green Tier / Loyalty Bonus / COVID SCs etc.)

Well @Chrizztofa, I got LTG in 2013 and they certainly did not provide any details at that time. I rather like getting these snippets of data about my flying that they have recently started to send.
