LHR to LPL help!

Could someone suggest a sensible way of getting from LHR to LPL please, that involves as little surface transport as possible?
I have tried some basic searches but nothing sensible comes up.

National Express coach for 7+ hours is not 'sensible' in my book, and neither does driving myself after travelling for 24 hours, even though I'm pretty good at sleep on aircraft. I also would rather avoid the trains if at all possible.

I do have around 10 hours to get from LHR to LPL, and would consider flying into the continent and flying back into LPL if I do not have to use any surface transport (I genuinely hate carting my luggage around after suffering lugging my luggage around at stations that do not have lifts or escalators).

Any advice would be gratefully received.

P.S. Preferably OneWorld please, but I know this would be a tall order knowing it involves LPL which is almost like a LCC airport.
Also I am unable to change LHR to anywhere else, because it's around Christmas and changing it will cost me probably more than hiring a Cessna to do LHR-LPL :lol:
 
I would fly LHR-MAN and drive from there. Can be done on a QF codeshare if you arrive into LHR on QF, so qualifies for SCs and min 1000 FFP.
 
Thanks MN, I think you are right. The only objection I have to that is £185 one way fare that BA website is quoting, but I might well have to put up with it if I want to be fussy (as I am being). It costs money to try to travel... :lol:

Suggest you look at what flights go in and out of LPL. The LPL web site is Liverpool John Lennon Airport
The best I can see is LCC in and out as you pointed out so a OW flight to somewhere else then a LCC (Mainly EzyJet and Ryanair). Another option is BA from LHR to MAN then a 37 mile road trip to Liverpool.

Also not sure they'd let you run a Cessna out of LHR :!: :( :shock:

Could also try BD who fly LHR-MAN. Also ask whoever sold you the flight into LHR if they can sell you the QF codeshare on the BA flight. They may be able to link the bookings and not need to alter the original.

Thanks again NM. Being a tight bum I shall call them and see what they can do. They (Qantas) managed to linked various flights without altering the original, so hopefully they can do that with this booking as well.
 
NM's suggestion is now looking most promising, after speaking to QF. I hate to drive but I might not have much choice, other than to do something silly like LHR-CDG on BA and then CDG-LPL on EZY (which is an option after looking at LPL website as suggested by Straitman - thanks).

Having said that, I would rather entrust EZY than my driving under the circumstance, because I'd have gone straight from work to SYD-LHR flight.

Perhaps a taxi from MAN to LHR, although I guess that could be rather expensive. (MAN to LHR by coach takes around 3 hours with one change and I don't really feel like it.)

It might seem like hell of a kerferffle for a small benefit, so maybe I should just take the train.

Is British Rail (or its successor) just as bad as it used to be, or is first class reasonably OK?

I looked at the trains earlier, and there is no easy Heathrow connection that I could find. (HEX, tube, Train, or Bus, Train etc).

One option to consider is a taxi/driver from Heathrow to the London train station where your train goes from.

You should be able to find more information on the NationalRail website National Rail Enquiries - Official source for rail information, UK train times and timetables

Virgin Trains do the route from Euston Station in about 2.5 hours, which could be a good option - I've heard reasonable things about their service.
 
Mal, thanks for that. I think it's Euston and so far your suggestion of taking the taxi or some form of transport to the station and catching the train to Liverpool is the most viable option (and I guess I'll catch a taxi to the airport from Liverpool station).

There is always Heathrow Express to Paddington, taxi to Euston, Euston to Liverpool. Taxi probably around 10-12 pounds (based on Taxi fares | Transport for London ) and not really that much more hassle as the Heathrow Express is set up reasonably well at Heathrow. I don't recall steps from Paddington to the cab rank, but unsure.

Its only about 40 miles from Manchester to Liverpool, so even using a taxi or some sort of driver/limo service may not be out of the question.
 
Thank you once again Mal and NM. My surface transport phobia is setting in (joking, I'm not that bad although I would do my best to avoid surface transport as much as I can) and I'm starting to lean towards flying LHR to MAN and then catching a taxi to LPL. Availability is poor from LHR to MAN and I can't book until mid December due to potential itinerary change but if I miss out on the flight, I could always choose the train.

I’ve been an avid “lurker” on here for many months; learning lots (for which I am very appreciative).

And, at last, something I can add which may be of use to others!

Some suggested options:

Fly from LHR to MAN then take a taxi from MAN to LPL (which will cost you about £45).

Fly from LHR to MAN then take a train from MAN to Liverpool Lime Street (there are hourly direct trains, taking about an hour and ten minutes and costing off-peak (after 09:30) about £13).

Take a train from Euston to Liverpool Lime Street. Takes about 2hrs 30 mins. Costs between about £20 and £60 depending on the time of day, etc.

Once at Liverpool Lime Street you can then take the Airport Express (about £2) or a taxi (sorry, don’t know the cost of that).

Given your aversion to surface transport, the direct taxi from MAN to LPL might be your best option.

I would take the HEX from LHR - Paddington and then take the Virgin Service from Euston - Liverpool. Nice train service

I think I've decided on LHR-MAN followed by a taxi MAN-LPL.

Trains would have been an OK option (certainly MUCH cheaper than flying) but given that I should probably maximise my SCs in case I fall slightly short of renewing WP... ;)

The Virgin service is really good as long as its on a week day. Weekends add on at least another hour.
