I have a J flight this Wed from LHR - SYD (via HKG). The first leg is on BA31 from T5, and then connecting with QF128 in HKG.

I am wondering what the earliest check in time at LHR T5 is? I will have checked luggage and will be there roughly 5-6 hours before the departure time. Does anyone know what BA's policy on check in is?

Also, has anyone used the Elemis Spa at T5 yet? Exactly which lounge is it in there and is it any good?

I flew out of T5 22/8 and it was 3 hrs. to check in prior to flt. I was there 3 1/2 hrs. prior to flt. but was not allowed to check in.

It has always been 3 hrs. for me with BA previously from T4. When I flew out of JFK with BA on 12/8, I was 4 hrs. early for flt. and had no problems checking in early.

I was premium economy, perhaps, being J may make a difference.

I saw the spa set up @ JFK lounge, did not use it. I was in the sth. lounge @ terminal 5 and didn't look for it.

Do you know if it is any different if connecting from another flight? The reason I ask is I'm actually getting in from FCO (T5) the 6 hours before the international flight, but I wasn't going to check my bags through if I could avoid it (call me crazy, but 'LHR' and 'bags' shouldn't be used in the same sentence).

However, if it means getting me straight through to the lounge with no problems, then I'll have to trust them and do that.

More experienced flyers will need to answer your enquiry.

I too worried abt. my bags through T5, but all went smooth. My inward and outward flts. were later in nite and mid morning, not too busy and all went smoothly, other than waiting half hr. to check in for outward trip.

I know when I have a long wait in US for next connection and I already have boarding passes for onward flts. and bags are checked through to the end destination, I just go through security, etc. and into the lounge.

If you check your luggage through, then you can just stay airside and go straight to the lounge

If you collect your luggage, you will likely have to wait before you are permitted to re-check in your luggage

If your ticket allows changes, I would suggest changing the FCO-LHR to BA559 and get a more civilised connection time of 2.25 hours

Thanks Dave, will check to see if I can adjust the flight...otherwise I'll be checking the bags through and heading for straight for the spa :)

Cheers.
