I'm trying to match up a flight from Iceland on Iceland Air (FI?) with a QF to HKG in Jan of next year. Unfortunately there only seems to be a once daily service departing LHR at 1225 and the earliest FI flight gets in at 1130 on a saturday or sunday. Does anyone think this would be enough time to make the connection or should I bed in for a 16hr stay in the QP? And f I need to hang around for that long, what are my options; can I go out of the airport and can I actually use the Qantas club for that long?

Thanks

Jon

I'm pretty sure that 55 minutes doesn't meet the minimum connection time at Heathrow, and IMHO your chances of making the flight would be extremely small. If you were not able to check your bags through/get your boarding pass in Iceland then I would give you nearly a 0% chance of making it.

There are other options though. Perhaps Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong? British Airways to Hong Kong? They should both have better connections. There also might be other carriers from Iceland to Heathrow, but havn't checked.

Whether you can leave the airport or not depends on your nationality/passport. Assuming Australian passport it should be no dramas. The BA lounges at Heathrow will close at certain hours, so staying there overnight will not be possible. Not sure whether the airport itself shuts overnight for any amount of time.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I'm actually on a PER-LHR return with QF via NRT (there) and HKG (back) so I'm not sure if I can take flights with other carriers apart from BA to LHR as QF don't fly there.

The other problem is I can't find people who fly to Iceland into LHR apart from Iceland Air so I think I'm stuck with them...

Any advice on what I can do with a 16hr stopover then? I am a QC member, and have never been to London

Thanks, Jon

Book a night at a hotel and get a good night's sleep. I have a 22 hour layover in London next month and have a room booked at the Paddington Hilton. Will use the train from LHR to Paddington Station and the hotel is right upstairs. I will then be meeting up with another AFF/FT member for dinner/drinks somewhere in London. Then take the train back to LHR the following morning for my flight to HKG. All very civilised.

55 mins - no chance.... and every time i try a short connection i end up bumped to the next flight.
I know its a pain and expense but relax and take the overnight option.

Or book the next days flight, make sure you can cancell your hotel at no cost until 6pm and ask to get moved up if its possible....

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies.

Connection time is no longer an issue, as apparently I can take the BA flight instead and have a more pleasant transfer time of 6 hours. I arrive at 12 midday, Terminal 1 and depart 1800 Terminal 5.
