Quick one for the brains trust. Have had a short LH flight cancelled and automatically rebooked for the next day approx 16 hours later. Obviously will be making a claim for compensation under EU261 however am I also entitled to cancel the booking for refund given the unsuitability of the change even though it was a non-refundable booking?

that’s my understanding, compensation and reimbursement: EUR-Lex - 32004R0261 - EN

The idea is that you might have to pay for a walk-up fare on a different carrier, hence the compensation to off set that cost, together with your original fare.

Is the flight within the next 14 days?

Original flight was 5hrs ago. Was cancelled approx 12hrs prior to scheduled departure. Guessing I will cancel and chase them up for a refund when I return to Australia.

I arrived QF to LHR @ around 5:30am. Was supposed to get a BA flight to BRU @ 8:15am. Canceled, and put on the next available flight at 8:15pm. So, about 15 hours at LHR and a case of COVID thx very much.

However, I received a total of $575 from BA for compensation and reimbursement pursuant to EU261.

Following up with this and maybe a month ago Mrs NoName received an email from LH asking for a bank account to deposit the EU261 compensation into. A couple of weeks later €500 hit her account so happy days there. Still awaiting the actual refund though. At the time I was not able to cancel online and couldn’t contact anyone on the phone so had to use their cancelation request form. Will see what happens with this part.
