Perhaps not so outrageous....but duty free stores airside that sell suitcases/cabin roller bags. What? Why? I've always found it baffling.

Passengers are already airside with their cabin luggage. Now unless a catastrophe occurs and that bag breaks and need an emergency replacement, does anyone purchase these? Would you have to gate check it? Do airlines allow for an extra bag if its duty free and treat it like any other duty free? Or are they just there to fill up floor space.
Flew CDG >SIN, in Y!/before AFFer, and on arrival at SIN, my bag handle broke. In my sleep deprive fugue I thought I had to buy a new bag at Changi but thankfully, after a transit hotel nap, realized I could make do until I got home the next day but if it was at the start of my trip, I would have looked at the bags.

Occassionally I will look at the Tumi bags but the prices, Oy vey, the prices!

Qatar!?:oops: Boy, they piled the plates high on my recent trips with them and I was in the very last seat served (9K)
I assume Pushka was referring to Y … ?
[9 wouldn't be Y on anything much bigger than a 737?]

They took pre orders for dinner in advance of departure. Despite being in row 2 MrP’s order was later declined as they’d already run out. Seems the mini cabin had their orders taken first.

Nope. J.

Jetstar J class from Honolulu ran out of all meals last month in a business cabin that wasn’t full. Not just a preference that ran out but ALL meals. On a 10 hour flight. Again we were in row 2. Row 3 was empty. We got something put together from Y. Oh, this was for both breakfast AND dinner.

Oh, that's explainable though, JQ was entirely designed to make QF look good.
As an employee, juddles would have more deets!

How about these for truly outrageous thoughts (mainly in respect of flying J):

* Qantas is a very good domestic airline

* Qantas is a very mediocre international airline inasmuch as it charges high prices for an average product

My recent experience would tend to indicate the opposite...

If you are a WP and personally paying for the tickets, there is no valid reason to fly QF domestically, with the possible exception where the opposition does not service the route you wish to fly.

If you can get a good sale fare, the latest product and a good crew (I know that is a 'unicorn' combination), QFi are not that bad from a global perspective. I can still be surprised how poor the product and service can be from some well known 'world leading' airlines.

A few recent long haul BA J sectors has 'realigned' my OW expectations...

Timing & cost?
For example QantasLink were cheaper to Tamworth than Virgin, and had a flight at a time that suited me … on a flight that's under about 1.5hrs, any concern about a meal onboard is fairly irrelevant, I'd rather spend part of a $50 difference in fare on a magazine & a beer before departure than worry about 50c difference in food-quality onboard (not that I've flown VA since they started including meals - purely on the basis of convenience & cost though, I don't have enough status to be loyal to anyone).
The one trip where I'd probably have been better served by VA was Launceston, but it must've been a busy time of year - VA had more direct flights, but both carriers were sold-out on the day we wanted to fly. From memory we took the JQ two-step gamble as last resort (via MEL - can't have been too late as I don't remember it that well :)).

Ah.Flights to Launceston.I work there and going with QF I have to fly MCY-SYD-MEL-LST.
VA it is MCY-SYD-LST.
Now the real gem is JQ.One of the MCY-SYD flights then goes to LST.Of course I can't book that flight because in SYD I have to get off, collect my baggage, check in again and then get through security.By that time the flight to LST is probably half way to LST.

Wow … sensical. Non!

Well I will cut down on my flying when the alarmists decide to teleconference on Climate Change instead of flying around the world.cOP 24-28000 +

The Paris conference had 45000 attendees.

(Devils advocate hat placed upon highest point of cranium)

Pretty common excuse.. (weak as p***..) ……...everybody does it so it's ok.

It's the same boring argument used by climate change deniers

Don't get me started on cruising and the environment…..

harvyk, I get the loving of flying. I also understand that status can seem important. But in my humble opinion a status run has to be a mathematical equation. IE that the benefits to be obtained outweigh the extra cash spent. I have only seen evidence of the is equation a couple of times in many endless posts regarding this.
Ok, I'll bite:

We do status runs to keep Mr Clipped at WP or SG. And to quantify it - here is your mathematical equation:

Husband + Wife (x 4 kids) + 2 dogs + 2 birds divided by (one) soul sucking self-employed business = NO LIFE multiplied by status runs to ANYWHERE but here = HOPE + SANITY x (PRIVACY)

I think you nailed it. The utmost optimal combination ( 'unicorn') flying Qantas gives a 'not bad' outcome.

Whether you believe in human induced climate change or not, can't help but think there's a lot of $$$$ going into this whole thing, that might be better spent at the grass roots:

Hmm this thread is a bit benign to where I thought it would go. Will see whether my EY F flight in 11 days provides me with some inspiration
