Hi

I bought my daughter a return flight JFK-SYD earlier in the year to get her home from Canada to start Uni. You reap what you sow (lots of international travel as a child) and she is now returning to Canada (Banff) to start work next month. It is more expensive (and obviously a lot longer) for her to fly from JFK to Calgary, then it is from LAX.

Recent travellers, can you tell me if you still pick up your bags at LAX after going being processed by immigration and then have the option of dropping them off or going through customs and leaving the terminal? As she is on the return leg, there is no issue about not completing her journey.

All flights to the USA must clear immigration and customs at the first point of entry into the USA, so QF107 does require every passenger to clear immigration, then collect bags and clear customs, then drop their bags for TSA screening before being reloaded for the LAX-JFK flight.

So it would be possible to collect bags and not continue to JFK. However, this may be in breach of the ticket/fare conditions.
