While sitting in the LAX First Class lounge waiting for QF94 I quickly called my wife.
I said "I am in the LAX First Class Lounge"
She misheard and said 'Sorry did you say third class lounge?'
I looked around at the vast number of people sitting on the floor and standing for lack of chairs and replied "sounds about right"

Totally agree with you, in the lounge at the moment too, glad i got a seat though :)

Thankfully better things are coming when the new central core of the TBIT renovations comes online. If you get some time before boarding check out gate 134 (and maybe 130, 132) if they have opened. The new lounges are just beyond.
(albeit the First Class lounge is stage 2 I think)

When are the new lounges due to be finished? The OW lounge at LAX is simply too small and it felt like a zoo last time I was in the business class lounge! My partner and I were lucky enough to find a seat...just!

Was taking QF12 out of Gate 134 in the last week of December last year, renovations are still going.

This site updates montly - LAX Development Documents

This time last year, completion date was December 12 2012.
This slipped to late January by mid year and last date mentioned in the newsletters was March 31.
Most recent letter states Spring 2013.
New lounges should open with the great hall opening.

Most low cost terminals are better than TBIT!!

Look forward to seeing new lounge pics, has to be a dramatic improvement on what is there!!

At the TBIT First lounge, I prefer to get in early, enjoy the lounge, but then leave just before WiFi gets too overloaded to get decent bandwidth.

I just hope the new lounge is finished and opened before May coz that's when I'm next due to pass through there!

Huh?

The TBIT oneworld lounge is basically staying where it currently is, just expanding to more than double it's current size by taking over the adjacent *A lounge space to the South as well as growing a bit out to the West.

Thanks. Any links available re new configuration? Extra F space? Had a look on LAX Web suite but nothing apparent.

Its a large addition to the West (about the size of current lounges) and all of that new space is in the central core of Bradley West.

I suspect the oneworld lounge construction is in stages as they can't begin renovating inside the old TBIT until staralliance moves out.

...
The West extension is still on the 5th floor and not proximate to gate 134 ¹.

Going by several announcements, I believe *A will move to their 6th Floor location first, then *O will refurb then utilise the vacated 5th floor area until the Western extension is properly connected to the existing area and refurbished.

¹ (my "Huh!" was in relation to "If you get some time before boarding check out gate 134 ... . The new lounges are just beyond.")

Rome wasn't built in a day, and Tom Bradley when finished will be bloody excellent (for a US terminal). Pity it has taken the best part of 30 years to get to this point, but it will happen soon.

When the 5th Floor *O lounge was opened it was supposed to be a panacea for all ills and not (as it turned out) a temporary facility.

Anyhoo, here is a link to a map showing where gate 134 is in relation to the "Central Core" where the premium lounges are/will be:

Sitting in the lounge now in Terminal 4 waiting for QF16. I was really expecting a sh@*hole after ready the forum but it is quite spacious and bearable. Of course one complimentary beverage is hard to cop and paying for anything other than carrot and celery sticks is harsh when paying the big bucks. Alas a stroke of luck! Chap spots me and takes a wild guess that I like a drop and offers me 8 drink coupons he has no need for !!! "Happy Days"........Always Craven

Nice one! Though you used to be (as a non-AA OWS or OWE, or a QP member) able to replenish your complimentary drink chit supply as often as required (not that I ever managed eight!) ...not sure if that policy has changed?

There was nothing to stop you going back to the service desk and requesting more chits - I have never been refused.

Aside from that, they do have a range of "complimentary" (basic) alcoholic drinks available - just ask.
