Hi,

I hope this is the right area to ask this as I am after clarification to make sure I have this right. We are flying into LAX from MEL in September on Qantas in J class. Arrive at LAX at 7.30AM. We are then getting flying United P.S J Class to JFK at 11.45am

My question is which lounge can we use at LAX for the 3-4 hours we are waiting for our connecting flight? Would this be the UNITED AIRLINES RED CARPET CLUB in Terminal 7?

Also lets say when I go to checkin online, I am offered a paid upgrade to first class. If I take this option can I then access the United International First Class Lounge?

On the way back to oz with Qantas we are coming back First Class from LAX on the A380 from Terminal B. What lounge can we use there? Is it the British Airways, Cathay Pacific and Qantas Joint Oneworld Lounge in the seperate First Class lounge?

When I arrive back in Sydney I have a 3 hour wait to get my flight back to Adelaide via Qantas in J class. Can I still use the Qantas International First Class lounge as that is what I flew into Sydney? And if not which lounge could I use?

Thanks guys in advance to the lounge gurus :)

Your only chance will be UA lounge in the terminal from which your flight departs. I am not sure about UA's lounge access rules and whether a J ticket on a domestic trans-continental flight entitles you to lounge access or not. Other members may know the answer to that one.

Again a question for the UA experts.

Yes, the OneWorld First Class lounge at TBI is you option.

If your flight is a domestic flight, with a flight number greater than QF400 then you will not have access to the International departures area nor the International First Class lounge. You will need to take the transfer bus to the domestic terminal and can use the domestic Business Class lounge.

Excellent thanks,

Dam. I was hoping that since I was flying back F I could at least experience the Qantas Sydney First Class Lounge before getting the transfer bus over to the domestic terminal. I assume they would just turn me away?

You cannot even get to the lounge entrance. When you arrive into Sydney you can only get to the arrivals processing area - immigration, baggage claim and exit through customs/quarantine. When you exit from that section you are "land side" and cannot get back to the departures area without going back through outbound immigration, which obviously you cannot since you are not leaving the country.

Ah. Thanks for the clarification.

PS Biz = RCC access and free drink coupons. This was confirmed by a personal friend who flew JFK-LAX-JFK recently. The LAX dragons didn't think that PS Biz pax are entitled to drink coupons. They are. Otherwise the JFK dragons would not have given them away. No way, José.

PS F = International First Lounge access.

You will like PS Biz. Assuming there are two of you, do try to get seats 6C and 6D. If I were self-funded, I wouldn't bother paying for an upgrade to PS F. PS C is most satisfactory for daytime flights, and the food and booze are pretty much the same as F. Save your points/money.

It is actually quite simple to get to the departures level at SYD T1 after arriving from LAX - just go through transit security. You do not need to show a boarding pass.

However, that's where it all end's I'm afraid. You should not be able to get into any Qantas lounge without a BP for a oneworld flight departing SYD T1. Also, you still need to get back through to arrivals which is not easy.

As for LAX to SYD, you don't indicate how you plan to get to LAX. If you arrive into T4, your should be able to use the flagship lounge there, heading over to TBIT no later than 1½ hours before you flight to SYD is to depart.
