LAX Hotel ?

We need to overnight at LAX as there is no evening flight to our next destination. Any recommendations for the best 4-5* best hotel near the airport, ideally with easy transfer to/from airport and free WIFI.

Can recommend Four Points LAX if you need to check in early - you pay in 24 hour blocks
Stayed there in Dec - checked in about 10am... no problem at all.
It's probably a 3 - 4 * hotel - comfortable and functional, but that's it.
Staying there again in May

There are many, many options for airport hotels at LAX. You can be quite specific in your wish-list and still find you have a choice. Do you want breakfast included? do you want a "suite" type room? Do you have any hotel loyalty program affiliations?

My preferred LAX airport hotel is the Embassy Suites (North). Great rooms, manager's reception in the evening and a reasonable breakfast all included. They also have a pool and gym for those inclined. And its part of Hilton chain. But there are probably 15-20 options available around LAX.

I have stayed there a couple of times also. We were offered several options at checkin (i.e.internet, breakfast etc) and in the end they gave them all to us and a VERY late checkout.

Booked Embassy Suites (North) based on this recommendation for our arrival at LAX (picking up rental car from Alamo/netflights the following morning, seems to be very close, walking distance almost). Got it at RACQ/AAA reduced rate of ~$162 midweek, incl taxes and breakfast. Will be sleeping 2 adults 2 little kids, hopefully worth it for the extra room in case someone needs to sleep on the couch. Not sure if I could have done any better with the rate (we are Hilton HHonors nobodies)? Also not sure if this rate will qualify for Q3 HHonors promotion (?double fixed miles). Any advice / tips on booking family style accommodation in the US at a discount, and hopefully earning FF points would be welcome.

The Radisson, because no shuttle required, it is a 5 minute walk from the end of the terminals. after long flight I prefer to stretch my legs. (ok so it takes 10 mins to walk the length of the terminals from TBIT)matt

Never paid for wifi in the US, even the Denny's at Mojave has free wifi. (makes it all the more insulting for Aust hotel users, but a whole other thread)

If you're wanting cheap, just use the Travel Lodge at LAX, cheap, requires a shuttle but still has free wifi.

We often stop at a McDonalds on the edge of the town we are heading for and book Hotwire, using the free wifi. Have never had a problem getting one or two rooms and quality for price always very good. Works well on driving holidays.

I have most of the next day before flying home at about 2200h so want to go somewhere for the day. Was thinking about Venice Beach as I've never been there.

Was thinking of the Radisson as it's closest apparently but it seems to have changed hands - it's a Hyatt now? Trip Advisor reports aren't that great. Just need a clean room, a decent bed, a shower and somewhere to leave my bag for the day.

I have stayed at the Sheraton Gateway LAX several times - room with access to club lounge is good as there is afternoon finger food as well as a very good breakfast - late check out is also possible.

We have just come back from the US, and stayed at The Radisson (now The Concourse) on our last night before our flight home. I DO NOT recommend. Booked it months ago when it was The Radisson, and was looking forward to getting some benefits as a Club Carlson Gold member. Anyway, when we were in Vegas - 2 days before our stay at The Radisson, I just thought I would look to reconfirm my booking etc. That's when I found out it was no longer The Radisson. I called to double check our booking was still valid and the rate etc - and it was all fine, thankfully. Lucky they told me to look for the shuttle bus that said "The Concourse" on it - otherwise I may still be standing waiting !

So, it's now "The Concourse - a Hyatt Affiliate". From what I can gather, they will be starting a huge refurbishment shortly, and when that is complete it will become a "proper" Hyatt.

The rooms are tired, dirty and just plain awful. We had a runway view (which we requested) but the windows were so dirty you couldn't see out of them. The "sleep number" beds did not work at all - and my husbands bed (yes, they gave us a two bedded room - but they were small doubles, so we ended up having one each), was so squeaky that everytime he even breathed it would wake both of us up ! Horribly noisy air conditioning, dirty bathroom and carpet. Just generally run down.

Room service had a mandatory 20% "service charge" and a $6 "tray delivery". Food was ok though.

Then to top things off - we had booked two nights, Thursday and Friday - checking out on the Saturday. Our flight was to leave at 10pm on the Friday night, so we paid for the extra night so we would have the benefit of the room all day and into the evening. They then charged us for this night (fine - that is what we booked), but then charged us an "early check out fee" of $150 in addition to the room rate for the night. 2 weeks down the track and I have only just been able to get this amount refunded from them.

Seriously, I am pretty laid back when it comes to hotel rooms - my "non negotiables" are clean, comfortable bed, own bathroom, decent room service. That's about it. BUT this place is an absolute dump - obviously the "changeover" has been on the cards for quite some time and it is almost like they just stopped any sort of effort or maintainence. Oh, and it is way understaffed, and the staff that are there could not care less.

Am sure there are many other choices in the area - I wouldn't stay there again.

I got a room at the Hilton for $US109++ - funny it was $20 cheaper on their website than through all the different booking and discount sites.

Shame about the Raddison, was good and close.. I thin kthe Sheraton is next door. I'm happy to cop a hit on price or quality if I can walk but not less quality and more price.

The Four Points has a 24 hour room. You can checkin any time and check out 24 hours later. In other words you can keep,the room all day for a late night flight home.

The rate are generally pretty reasonable. The hotel is fine and you can jump on the ocean trolley and have lunch at Manhattan Beach.

The Travelodge is ok too, from memory it offers an 8pm check out. I prefer the Four Points.

At LAX, we've stayed at Crowne Plaza, Sheraton, Embassy Suites (North) and Westin. They're almost indistinguishable. The pool at the Embassy Suites (Nth) was a bit icky. Trolley to Manhattan Beach is pretty good. Also consider bus and walk to Arthur Kinney Drive in Venice Beach (hipsters) or a short roll to Inn-n-Out Burgers (so bad they're good). Santa Monica, LaBrea tar pits and the adjacent modern art gallery all pretty cool.

Neverthless, the whole LAX customs / border protection "experience" has me scouring the route maps of Asian and Pacific partners for alternative connections into US destinations.
