Can anyone please advise:

Need a rental car at LAX. I'm thinking of staying one night at an airport hotel and picking up the car the next day to get over the jetlag.

Is the HILTON LAX or Marriott LAX better? Both have inhouse Hertz counters. I heard that picking up and dropping a car at Hertz LAX can be very involved.

If anyone can tell me which is a nicer hotel with more food options and nearby convenience stores would be a great help. Thanks!

Netflights are normally a great option in the US as their quotes include all the add ons and their prices are normally a bit cheaper than direct.

LAX Hilton is pretty good but I have no knowledge of the Marriott.

LAX Hilton was handy and comfortable although I thought overpriced but its still our 1st choice hotel. The cafe on the left hand side as you enter is OK but a bit like a hospital cafe, no personality and that includes the staff. There is also a large bar (left hand side) and a more formal restaurant which also opens for breakfast on the right hand side as you enter (Im being specific because I didnt notice they opened for breakfast) and the room service was prompt and also good.

Swing past Randy Donuts on the way out and pick up a box for the road trip - donuts have been ruined for me ever since tasting these.

Marriott Residence Inn LAX (W. Century Blvd) is very nice (apartment style) with on site take away/eat in attached to complex. Budget rental lot is about a 3 minute walk (at rear of the property).

I stayed at the Westin late last year and enjoyed it. The rate included a USD$25 restaurant/bar voucher which I put to good use. They always provided a cob of bread and butter gratis so unlike a lot of hotels I found the food to be good value. Gym was pretty good and they will supply New Balance workout gear for $5 which is handy. Right next door you'll find a car rental depot, Thrifty I think. I grabbed a vehicle from there.
