Hi all,

I've decided to do my inaugural FJ J NAN-LAX run. I want to arrive in Austin first up, so bookings will look like this:

QF MEL-SYD-NAN
FJ NAN-LAX
AA LAX-AUS

Now my questions is how long a connection time should I allow at LAX between the FJ flight arriving at 1205 and taking an AA flight to AUS. I essentially have two options:

1. LAX-AUS direct on AA2246 leaving at 1850. This would be a 6h 45m connection. The other LAX-AUS direct flight is AA1310 leaving at 1345, but I'm assuming 1hr 40m is a bit tight.

2. LAX-DFW-AUS. In first this gives me an 180SC instead of 120 for an extra $33. The LAX-DFW flights seem to leave at either 1345, 1415, 1535 or 1635.

If I go direct I'm thinking I'd need to take the 1850, but if I go indirect for extra SC, what should I allow - 2h 10m (1415), 3h 20m (1535) or 4h 20m (1635)? In terms of arrival times I'd prefer the 1535 flight, but don't want to be caught out by a tight connection.

FYI flying date is 8 Jan - what is air traffic like then? Is the FJ flight often delayed?

Interestingly the direct flight is offering a First Special for $345 and the indirect for $378, the alternative being a non-QFF-earning Q class economy fare for $174-197 or Economy Flex for $600+.

I would take the indirect route for A/ the extra Status credits and B/ Timing.
2.10 hours is enough but u could go 3.20 hours and chill out a bit.

Is there a pay per use shower at LAX? I'll have just come off MEL-SYD-NAN-LAX in one hit and won't hit QFF Gold until after the AUS flight.

I would extend my trip to LAS and actually enjoy myself....:)

Suggest the latest indirect to give you maximum chances of connecting and a one day AA pass to take advantage of the lounge.

I agree. 2hrs 10min is barely enough time when on the same ticket, let alone separate ones.

sent from a mobile device...

Keep in mind the one day pass is valid for the day in multiple cities......

Are you doing this trip with hand luggage only?
I'm there for 3 weeks, so I will check one big bag in. Shopping is too good a lure at current prices, and I'll be going from silver to play over there so checked allowance is no issue.
how do I check loads on the 1850 direct? Do I have a good chance of just being put I that if I miss the 1635?
