Re: Car Hire out of LAX

One of my favourites is driving the coast road SFO- LAX stopping at Monterey Intercontinental as it has such a great position on the coast.
I have back up insurance on my Citi US Visa that I pay with as well as Chubb travel insurance from our business insurance broker (Cowden). There is no way you want to fight a claim from Australia if you have an accident in the US.

Re: Car Hire out of LAX

Serfty et al - In the Netflights T's & C's I noticed the following:

Please Note - Our rates are not available to residents of Latin America, the Caribbean, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Asia and Pacific regions, United States or Canada. Additionally, renters must present a valid non-US/non-Canadian driver’s licence and a valid non-US/non-Canadian Passport. However, USA and Canadian driving licence and passport holders can be added to the rental as an additional driver.

Is this new and if not does it concern anyone? I want to hire a car from SFO to LAX next week and Argus results are expensive and don't have the usual packages including insurances. Netflights looks great but the above worries me.
I have used them and did note the details you mention. I used the theory that they did not specifically exclude Australia (what is the true and legal definition of "Pacific Regions"? - I assume that to be Island nations such as Solomon Islands, Tonga, New Caledonia etc) and I fully disclosed my home address as being in Australia. I then accepted the rate they offered me as an Australian resident. I told them I am an Australian resident and the offered me a rate to rent a car in the USA. I met their condition of presenting a valid non-US/non-Canadian driver's license and a valid non-US/non-Canadian passport at the time I collected the vehicle.

Re: Car Hire out of LAX

I'm looking to rent a Specialty vehicle from AVIS in the US. I'm trying to book it through the AVIS UK site as it's cheaper and includes LDW and SLI, but they only show the main vehicle categories and not the Specialty ones. I might try ringing the UK reservations number to try and book it.

Has anyone had experience with this?
