Hi! I’m flying QF35 (MEL-SIN) on the 2nd May. Yesterday I could book basically any seat and the plane was empty and on Expert Flyer there were many white/empty seats. Now it shows they are all blocked now and the same thing has happened to my flight from LHR which leaves in 6 weeks. Any thoughts as to why? 160740

Similar has also been reported on FT.

I'm thinking they may be tinkering with seating criteria, or there has simply been s stuff up.

I selected seats late last night for SYD / LAX / JFK / LAX / SYD / BNE .... glad I did it before hitting the pillow. Just checked and they've all stuck.

My seat remained the same it’s just that the flight up until last night was empty and I could basically pick any seat and now they are all blocked around me.
I’ve had a look and changed dates (even two months ahead) with the same flight # and same thing happens! Row 84 is the only available row

What status do you have?

I checked the same flight and it looks pretty empty.

That’s exactly what it used to look like! But all those white seats are now blocked

Gold status and I’ve tried to go through Qantas and pick the most expensive fare in economy and still can only book row 84

I just took another look at all my flights - the seat map is functioning as it should with all the free seats available for selection.

I had almost the opposite situation on a recent flight DRW-ASP. Almost all the seats were blocked out a couple of days before travel (well within the 80hr window), I thought uh-oh this is going to be a very full flight and requested an upgrade to J. Well when I got on there were about 15 people in the whole economy cabin (and one other in J). Hoodwinked!

I have seen this when a large group has been travelling together (large number of seats blocked like this). I realised after boarding (all in similar uniforms) why it had been blocked off (rear section of A330).

May also be when the group has a large % of children/youths with weight and balance issues to consider, although @jb747 or @AviatorInsight may be able to comment further on that aspect.

The only weird thing is all three of my flights had 90% of the plane empty and now they are all full other than row 85. Even if I do a mock booking for 3 months away and only row 85 still is the only row and using the most expensive fare.

I can tell you this would've been blocked off for Load Control reasons. Getting the aircrafts correct CoG etc.
For the international flight, i would have no idea. Maybe FQTV number isn't in properly.

I reckon this is the case. The OP's SG status is not properly in the booking.

@aip84 maybe you should call Qantas and ask they remove you frequent flyer number from the booking, save the booking and ensure it has been cleared.

And then reinsert it.

Or if there are prblems with that, see if you can use web chat.
