Large differences in RTW prices

Recently booked a RTW with OW through STA travel. Apparently received their "student" price for the following:
MEL-LAX(A380)-BOS-IAD-JFK-LHR-BKK-SYD-MEL : $2980

Best Flight Centre could come up with was $3650.

Any ideas on the reasons for such a large difference?

Not really, maybe its a mile limited global explorer, not a oneworld explorer.
Do you know what the fare basis is ?
Either that or they really do have some special price for students.

Flight Centre aren't as cheap as they claim to be. In fact the ACCC has told Flight Centre off for calling itself the cheapest when it is not.

Hence their current slogan "unbeatable" which is really quite meaningless. Flight Centre is nothing more than a clever marketing operation which can suck in unfortunate people.

In my opinion, it is unlikely to be a LLGLOB26 (aka Global Explorer - Low Season); they have a base price of $2,899 before adding any

The fare basis would certainly assist here. I have this feeling it is a special fare ...

It's definately a student RTW, STA have access to them, as to FC's offshoot Student Flights, but general FC stores don't have access to student fares for obvious reasons

Just spoke to the TA and was informed that the baggage allowance was two bags at 20kg each for the entire duration.
Would this seem appropriate for this type of fare for those who have utilised a Qantas RTW?

Depending on when you booked your ticket and are flying.

Under the 'old' system 2x32Kg, under the new 2x23Kg.

That only is applicable to the QF part of the journey. The OP is travelling across the USA and the US carrier allowance will likely be 2x50Lb ( 2x32 Kg) and for the LHR-BKK-SYD , the allowance would be dependant upon the carrier too

2x23Kg will ensure that the bags will avoid excess fees on all parts of the journey

I had a similar problem when I was going around to various travel agents.
I found that Flight Centre were trying to sell me a RTW and also the most expensive, they were quoting me prices up to $3800!!!!

I ended up booking thru the Qantas Office in Collins St, Melbourne. I got it at $3090 inc taxes!!

My flights are the following..

Oct 12
MEL-SIN-LHR
Oct 13
LHR-EDI
Nov 12
LHR-PHL
Nov 28
JFK-LAX, LAX-MEL

Im so much looking forward to going on this trip!!!
