I think this is a Kuwait policy that has always been there, but only now it is in the process of being enforced.

I've not been watching the doco - what does wearing a jacket have to do with it?

It was 30°C in Dubai. Guy was wearing a thick jacket in the terminal. That was enough for Customs to have a chat to him in case he was concealing something. The guy's reason for wearing a jacket like that was because he said it was winter where he was living.

Could someone please explain to me exactly how a (now slightly mistranslated but still concerning) article about gaydar style immigration policy has anything to do with our own annual refugee migration intake. If someone could please make the connection for me that would be just great...

If someone could also let me know how this could be linked back to QF (and soley QF considering that middle eastern airlines of all colours are right now doing deals with half the airlines in the world) and their now obviously anti gay stance (a little strange considering the how the CEO identifies) that would be great also...

I am staying out of this debate but have one simple question.

Who are we to question/change the belief system of other cultures/religions/countries?

We cannot force our tolerance on others.

because there are some things which are considered so barbaric that they go against the very fabric of what can be considered 'right' under any reasonable interpretation of religion or basic human rights.

some interpretations are simply wrong. no argument about it.

female (and arguably male) circumcision. some aspects of sharia law. several aspects of indigenous culture and 'law' (in Australia)... and the list goes on.

and the west is often no less 'guilty' that anyone else when it comes to supposed violations.

but if there is a basic fundamental such as human sexuality, in which the person has no choice, and where they engage in that activity with another consenting adult (with all the caveats that come around 'consent') then we are right to try and protect our our fellow human beings from discrimination.

you know for 2013 it is simply mind boggling that the issue of gay rights is even on the table for debate. there is no debate to be had.
