Another Question:

I think i have heard somewhere that you can use you MH ticket to get into the SKL and vv, is this true?

thanks

I am not aware of that being the case. MH has their own Golden lounge at SIN and SQ has their own lounge at KUL. If they has such a lounge access arrangement I doubt each would want to maintain their own individual lounge space at both airports.

Yes, perspective hey. :)
I will still go F on the route when I can though - not for the onboard experience, it's just a cheap way to enjoy both Flounges. Well, not much going for the SIN SKL F these days - but hopefully they'd have nice new toys when the new T3 opens (and bring back dom p!). :)

Last question before we set off to KUL...

Our trip SIN-KUL is part of a MH ticket SIN-KUL (F), KUL-CMB (J).

Out of curiosity I'd like to see the SQ T3 SKL lounge, unless the MH lounge is a better bet on the F ticket.

I'll try to get the ticket moved across from MH to SQ.
I think that's the way to go - so we can get a slightly earlier arrival into KUL and the Transit hotel .

The MH Golden Lounge at SIN is pretty small and basic. It does have some hot food on offer and basic beverages in the fridge (Beer, mixes etc) and basic spirits. Its ok if you have 20 mins to wait out before the flight, but I would not want to spend 4 hours lounging there.

Thanks NM. :)

Hopefully a t'fer from MH to SQ shuttle is just a matter of going to the SQ counter.

Maybe I should go to the MH counter? In any case I could ask a MH - we're just trying to get to our hotel earlier as I anticipate a 5AM wakeup for our KUL-REP trip. Air Asia, from the  KUL LCCT.

-slight bump-

Just wanted to ask a few things about F shuttle on MH KUL-SIN.

Am looking at booking this April 23rd, doing the reverse of above and connecting from AirAsia REP-KUL (LCCT) and then on to MH KUL-SIN in F.

I understand that SQ has downgraded their service to business on this service, is MH planning this anytime soon or should I be OK?

Also was trying to find out what the MH F lounge At KUL is like, my best lounge experience is CX J lounge at HKG, would those here rate it better? or is it not worth it? i know everyones preferences are very different.... i guess what i'm hoping for is some hot food (satay?), and champagne....

any thoughts/advice appreciated

thanks

I am no aware of any planned changes, but it does make sense as it really is a domestic business class service and not an F service. I did it both ways last month and was definitely F then.

The MH Golden Lounge (First Class section) has been really quiet every time I have been there. Food consists of a selection of about 4 or 5 hot dishes on a buffet. Last time through that included probably 2 or 3 traditional Malaysia dishes (a chicken, a beef and a vegie dish), chicken and mushroom pie (not what I expected to find there, but quite good) and I can't remember other options. The freshness depends on the busyness of the lounge at the time.

The drinks option is nothing special. Champers was ok, but not real top-shelf. They have a fridge full of ice cream :) .

50 minute flight hardly matters whether it is in F or J
None of the planes that ply the route have a "true" F class seating, they are equipped for short regional flights, especially MH, which usually flies 737s on the route, same ones as it uses on domestic.

But I do have to say that MH lounge in KLIA is very very very good.
XO cognac, champagne, a la carte restaurant, great buffet, espresso bar. After all this is their home base. So the extra fare (about $60 only anyway if you buy from Malaysia) is worth it if you have a couple of hours to kill

Must have downgraded since my last visit there. They did have decent plonk, lots of sushi and cold bits and noodles made to order

Keep in mind that I am no wine buff, so perhaps the plonk was better than I have described. But I only had one glass. I have not tried the noodles - perhaps next time.

Thanks for that NM and Therma.. I'm sold....just on the pie and ice-cream :)

.. anyway its the only way i can afford F at the moment!! and it seems like a good starting point for F travels in the future..

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

With effect from 01APR2008, SQ will cease to sell F on the KUL route. Services to KUL will be sold J/Y, bringing the route in line with other 2 class routes. Codeshares operated by MH excepted.

Here's a thread on SQTalk discussing the changes:
No more SQ F on KUL-SIN-KUL routes w.e.f. 1 Apr 08 - SQTalk

Makes a lot of sense from a ticketing perspective as it was always an issue ticketing through J itineraries to/from KUL. One would have to sit in whY for the KUL segments even though J fare has been paid, and the "F" seats are essentially the regional J cabin anyway (except for the odd Spacebed aircraft every now and again).

I suggest avoiding the MH flights operated by 737-400 aircraft. Go for the A330 flights if you can. Desides the small cabin and inferior seats, the 737 flights generally depart from the main terminal while the A330 flights depart from the satellite terminal (C gates). The MH Golden Lounge is in the satellite terminal. You can still use the lounge if on a 737 flight, but just need to allow an extra 5 to 10 mins to get the train back to the main terminal and walk to the departure gate.

Unfortunately all MH flights on the 23/4/8 seem to be on 734's (according to E/F and MH website), but I plan on allowing enough time to get over to and back from the Golden lounge, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue..

Yeah, the A330 flights seem to be few and far between these days. All my recent ones have been 737's, bit I am always connecting to or from QF51/52 so limited in my choice. SQ must be carrying more traffic on the with the 777 services.

Thanks for the headsup; very useful for planning some regular upcoming trips. Cheers.
