I can remember when that was the Ansett lounge and It's barely changed since.
Let's hope the terminal work is finished more quickly than the car park redevelopment.

I can't remember the start date, but some airport staff seemed to think it would take 18-24 months. Probably quite a bit of inconvenience too as this is a major upgrade.

That doesn't surprise me: with WA based capital works. I'm sure they didn't put a budget in too ;)

With the down turn over hear, they have probably missed the boat for when it was needed the most. Also could give them reason to delay or slow construction

The conspiracy theory floating around is that Citic Pacific have been lobbying for this for some time to allow for direct flights from China.

Anyway, this is well over due as it hasn't seen too much change from when it opened in the early 80's when I was going to school in Karratha at the time. I remember a new baggage belt went in in the last nineties when Ansett was doing the majority of the FIFO from there.

I intially was wondering where this new building goes but upon closer inspection it certainly looks like it will be expanding the existing building by filling out the unused space in front of the the current building, out to the tarmac. It appears the current Cafe area will be the new security screening area. I do see major disruptions along the way unfortunately.

But finally...the new lounge will be post security too - awesome.

And of course, Chinese carriers will find it profitable but no QF or VA...

Which means they run the airport like any other airport operator in Australia...
