I have just booked a Business return Syd-Sin-Ams for 28 March 2011 using my Krisflyer miles. As i wanted the flights to be connecting (little delay between them) I have accepted a Standard Waitlist seat for the first leg Syd-Sin. All the other flights are confirmed, and i am very pleased with the redemption rate (165,250 miles).

Given the flight is some months off what do other members think my chance will be of having the Waitlist seat revert to a confirmed seat?

Your waitlist will lapse in a few days. You will know by then.

Thank you for the response lto. The alternative would be to accept an ecomomy on the same flight Syd-Sin, or go earlier same day and have a 6 hr transit. I would probably go for the economy on same flight as the point going Business is to arrive reasonably refreshed. A 6hr transit would ruin that.

I have been in the Kris lounge for 3 hours and it is very comfortable in the J section in Singapore.
Overnighting at Crowne Plaza costs 330 $Sin including taxes which is an easy walk or train/moving walkway at Changi airport.

Thank you for the advice cove. I have not flown Business international before so the whole lounge thing is new to me. I have read you can even shower and freshen up whilst there.

I have just checked with SIA who tell me it is not possible to mix classes on different sectors with a redemption booking. e.g. I commented in my earlier post perhaps I could fly first sector in economy.

This means the next choice if Waitlist does not come through is to rebook the first sector on an earlier flight and do as cove does, relax in the J Lounge at Changi.

I had a 7hr wait in July and I have to say it was donequite easy in the SIA business lounge. Good ambience, good food etc.

I am doing a 7 Hour Layover when I fly in on SQ11 and then have to wait for SQ211 to Sydney, both flights in J.

Lounge is open 24 hours so I am gonna suck it up in he lounge and maybe get some sleep on a couch.

Thank you logan, lmere12 and cove for your thoughts on the lounge in Singapore. I phoned SIA who suggested it would be unlikely the Waitlist would convert to confirmation as redemption seat availability on that flight SQ222 was low. They switched me to the earlier flight SQ232, but jeft my name on the waitlist for SQ222. Pretty decent of them. For now it looks like I get to experience lounge life in Changi.:)

I was there between 6am and 8am in the J lounge and there are lovely facilities including showers and it was quiet despite a steady flow of customers.

If there's an airport in the world that you're going to have to spend six hours in transit in then Changi's pretty much the best option in that regard. Apart from the lounge access outlined previously, there's also plenty of other options available while in transit as well. From the standard shopping and dining all the way through to a rooftop swimming pool (though you do have to pay for the privilege there). One way or another the time will fly by swiftly enough I'm sure.

The idea of doing some laps sounds appealing, but then the thought of picking up a bug in the pool might keep me in the lounge.:)

there's always the movie theatre, but sometimes too many kids films, but yes, if you have to stop over, that's the place to be.
i have a business stopover at KLIA flying MH in April for 7 hours and am looking forward to that already. my daughter loves the massage chairs the most.

6 hours gives enough time for a run into Singapore town.

If you still have 'waitlist' on your booking then it hasn't been ticketed by SIA. A waitlist not confirmed and taxes paid within the three day window will lapse.

Also, be aware that the SIN-AMS is on the older 772 J product. If you are using your points for Standard awards, you can get on the A380 & 777W product (lie flat) into CDG or ZRH for the same points.

In any case, you'll have a wonderful trip...just want to help you maximise your experience.

Singapore airport also provide a 'free' tour into Singapore whilst in transit. If you go to singapore airport website you'll find the details in there. I think there were 2, 1 is if you have a 5hr layover and a 7hr.

AMS still has 772 J and I think one other European dest also - but cannot remember which it was.

I have overnighted in the CX Skyview Lounge a couple of times in the last 6 months. The lounge is not as good as the SQ lounges but it was still adequate for a shower and some sleep on the lounge chairs.

Another option would be to book the transit hotel for 6 hours. From memory it costs ~SGD70-80 for 6 hours.

Thank you everyone who responded to my question. The answers have provided me a multitude of ideas to fill the time.

On another thread someone offered that waitlist tickets only stay waitlist for 3 days, or thereabouts. Here is part of the computer generated response I got from SIA after booking suggesting you are now offered a cut-off date for WL at time of booking... "If your waitlisted flight(s) become(s) available before 26 February 2011, you will be advised via email or SMS. The email will have a link which you can then use to update your booking and select the flights you want to ticket."

Thanks for the update Prozac. I think that it was me that gave you the confusing feedback. My experience was that when I booked online I had to have the wait list come through within three days.

Sounds like you have a great trip loaded to go.
