It takes 50,000 miles to get Krisflyer Gold on SQ, versus 600/700 SC for QFF.

QFF gold can be had with one business circle pacific 22,000 mile ticket. Whereas, I would need to do SIN-LHR return in J, and SIN-LAX- return in J, to even get close to 50,000 miles on SQ. Even then, I still need to do some economy flights from SIN-Australia to get over the line.

Why is Krisflyer gold so much harder to get than QF gold? The Star Alliance lounges are not even better than One World lounges.

Is Krisflyer gold worth chasing?

I fly without any status on Kris points in J and First and you get great lounge access. Spend time thinking how to make points if that is possible!

Many would answer no to this question. Not because star alliance gold is not worthwhile, but because there are a range of other star alliance programs where it is easier to earn gold. There are some programs where a single circle pacific in business on star alliance would get you to gold as well.

If you really wanted *Alliance Gold then it would be much easier to get it via BD, A3 or OZ frequent flyer programs.

Kris Gold is not a great status to achieve as it takes too long and the benefits are absolutely pithy. If your regular flights are on the Star alliance routes and are always asked to turn right when you enter the aircraft, try Thai or Asiana. service is equally good but without the attitude. Gold status are easy to achieve and have better benefits like upgrades etc. 4 consecutive years as a KRIS gold has never got me an upgrade.. not even once. The main reason is that SQ flies more flights so chances of being in an overbooked flight is very close to zero..thats when you get the upgrades.

Thai and Asiana have lesser number of flights so upgrades are easier...received 3 star alliance upgrades on thai and Asiana.. and only flew them 6 times in 2 years.

SQ is fantastic if you fly with them once in a while...fly with them regularly.. they are just like every other airline. As one of their managers quoted recently.. 'tough times for airlines...' so do understand so for being like everone else.
