Just put this in response to another thread, but felt it might be nice to have a thread to compare how easy it is to achieve GOLD in different FF programs.

Flights : SYD-SIN

Qantas FF

Status Points : 30 (12 months)
Miles/Points : 3910 (never expire)

To get to Gold you need 700 Status Points
(note : only 600 the next year to maintain Gold)

That means you need almost 12 (11.7) return flights in first year to make it to Gold.
Kris Flyer

Elite Miles : 3912 (12 month window)
Miles/Points : 3912 (3 years) - Note : 25% extra if Silver or Gold & SQ Flight.

To get Gold you need 50,000 Elite Miles

That means just over 6 (6.4) return flights in one year to make it to Gold.

If my information is wrong, please let me know. For me, SQ is the way to go!

Remember Gold is not the same thing in different FFPs.

On QFF it is mid tier status.
On Kris Flyer it is top tier status (except for PPS which is separate).
On AA it is bottom tier status.

remember the singapore government holds a large number of the shares of singapore airlines.

What does that have to do with a comparison of frequent flyer program benefits?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

What the?

..... are you trying to say the airline is more stable because it is government owned, so points are less likely to go the way of Ansett Global Rewards points. Or are you trying to say don't use SQ because of they are owned by a government whose politics you disagree with?????

Interesting. For international travel I am having to switch to United and SQ.. so how does the above equate to SQ ff acruals on partner airlines? Still good?

On Kris Flyer 25% bonus is only on SQ, VS, MI (Silk Air) flights.

Most (all?) UA economy fares earn 100% miles on both Mileage Plus and Kris Flyer.

Once have status on UA you get 25% bonus (100% once *G) on UA flights (+ LH transatlantic).

Mileage Plus awards are generally cheaper than Kris Flyer, but depends on routes.

Mileage Plus miles cannot yet be used to upgrade on SQ (but probably soon) but can be used to upgrade on LH, LO, OS, LX, JP, OU, NH, TG and TP. All only from high fares (Y, B in economy and C, D in business).

Kris Flyer miles can also be used to upgrade on the same airlines (so far).

Go with Qantas. Its going to be a shorter flight with them. Must be the fact that the terminal used by QF is on the south side of SIN airport and SQ use the one on the North side, making the SQ flight 2 miles longer .

I think you'll find it is the other way around. QF is obviously short changing its members.

Interesting comparison between QF and SQ. Great Circle Mapper has the distance SYD-SIN at 3907 miles which is less than QF and SQ. If GCM has the correct distance then both QF and SQ are generous with the mileage.

SYD (33°56'46"S 151°10'38"E) SIN (01°21'01"N 103°59'40"E) 3907 mi

Qantas generous???

I think it depends on the altitude.

Imagine a triangle (with one side through Singapore and one through Sydney) from the centre of the Earth to the surface of the Earth and then one from the centre of the earth (with one side through Singapore and one through Sydney) to 10,000 metres ABOVE the surface of the Earth. Maybe you should then make adjustments for takeoff and landing altitude transitions. Worth a guess I guess.
