i am hoping that someone can assist in this dilemma-
oldies are doing a SKI trip next year(cramming everything in before they get OBE) BNE SIN LHR rtn May13 to Aug13 with SQ
  • while in UK they wouldnt mind doing some side trips to Europe
  • they want to return to UK in 2014 about the same time
  • so they joined up SQ Kris after ticketing
  • but on the weekend i joined them up to Aeagean after reading mini bites on forum
    • it gave 2000 points bonus for just joining
    • mentions lounge access - does that mean SQ at LHR?
    • also says extra kg 4 baggage (does that mean only on Aegean?)
(if it is across star alliance then thats a plus -as he needs a different pair of shoes for every weather forecast and eating venue and she collects ornaments!)

the main aim would be to get points to upgrade on the return leg in Aug or contribute to 2014 trip

in your experience which program would be the preffered to link their 2013 trip to -Kris or Aegean?

Do the olds still have an income over 35,000 per person as I think that is the minimum figure you need to get a point a dollar or 1.5 point per dollar credit card?
That way they would be adding to the travel points.

Aegean is good to quickly get to Star Gold.

If flying SQ BNE-SIN-LHR, assuming Y class (in booking classes S, Y, B, E, M, H, W, U, L, K Note: no miles will be earned in booking classes N, Q, T, V) then you will become Star Silver after the BNE-SIN-LHR trip and Star Gold after the LHR-SIN-BNE return. Silver does not give much. Gold gives the main benefits: lounge access, extra luggage (20kg), business/first class check-in when flying Y.

Aegean does not offer upgrade awards on other Star airlines. You can only upgrade Aegean flights.

After BNE-SIN-LHR return in Y you would have ca 23,000 miles which is long way short of the 100,000 needed for a redemption round trip in Y from Australia to Europe.

thank you for the info - i think it is the lounge access and baggage allowance that is probably most important for them. i will check out ways to see if they can earn pointson their cc.
