Hi,

Just had an email telling me that my membership will expire in June next year, which is 12 months after I enrolled. Why does Kris flyer do this so often? I am due to fly with them in March, but it is on an award ticket, so I am assuming it doesn't count. So frustrating to keep having to re apply. How can I avoid this? I don't want to transfer any more VA points over until I have a specific use for them or they will just expire...Any tips or tricks?
Thanks

I believe you need some point activity on the account every 3 years and it remains active.

SQ or partner flight, car hire, hotel stay, credit card point transfer, Velocity points transfer should extend your membership another 3 years.

But I've only had my membership since November 2014 so why are they emailing me to say it will expire on 1st June 2016?

There might be a glitch in your membership that triggers an expiry email. Send off email as Cruiser Elite suggests.

On the plus side, if they terminate the membership, it will be good for you if they have another 5000 points to register promotion :)

It may come down to what is regarded as 'activity'. An account that is opened and has no activity will close after 18 months.

Good point. They are sending email early as no activity after 12 months?

Seems after a few goes at this we have the result.
If you join Kris Flyer, and have no points activity within the first 12 months, they send you an email reminding you to earn points in the following 6 months (18 months in total), or your account will be closed. Seems quite reasonable to me, after all Kris Flyer don't want to administer accounts with no activity.

Would be interesting to see if post closure of the account you can sign up once again with the same email id and enjoy any sign on bonuses if they are in existence

I better transfer some points before I get the same email.

Why? Better to let a zero balance account expire and sign up again than transfer points when you need to rather than transferring point for the sake of keeping a zero balance account active.

Remember Krisflyer points actually expire 3 years after hitting the account. Unlike QF, VA where most activity will keep points active - no matter how long since they are earnt. So no point in transferring earlier than you need to! It doesn't take that long to sign up again.

Good point. Maybe i'll just let it expire...

Heg I am confused (Not hard to achieve I know).

You opened a KF account and transferred VA pts across to book a flt on SQ? If so then that is activity - I do not understand why account wopuld be closed. You have / had ZERO pts balance in KF account?

I can confuse anyone ;)

Points were transferred to Hubby's account and not mine. The booking was all done on his membership

Indeed so this flight would then probably not count as activity and your account would indeed expire in June. Given this I think giving 6 months notice of potential expiry is probably good customer service?

I agree. Great customer service. My frustration is that the membership only lasts for a year.
