So i wonder if a better thing would be to try to get flights through flight centre or something and use vouchers. But they don't appear to be as good value, as $100 = about 15000 points and a trip to melbourne return is 16000 points.

A business class ticket to HK is only 100000 points or so (depending on time and aircraft - usually a bit more than that). So effectively, its not really worth going for status upgrades.

I've already got a QC membership which is renewed every 5 years. No big deal to go for silver/gold sc upgrades except for the points discounts.

Krisflyer is also accepted with the westpac altitue platinum - no points capping and 1:1 $ for points, but then same as ANZ Visa, 2:1 for redemption to krisflyer.

The best visa krisflyer redemption is citibank for sure 1.5:1.

Amex the best overall, but I guess we all have to agree that amex is made for the consumer and not the retailer.

Amex is the same as Westpac Altitude for SQ, $1 spent = 1.5 Krisflyer points. Citi Visa is $1.5 spent = 1 Krisflyer points. Btw, you only need 76500 KF points to HK most of the time. But I think Altitude points ( less airlines than Amex ) are a little better than Amex for MAS. As a consumer, I'd stick to Amex but I do keep Westpac & Citibank cards for some occassions.

Yeah, well westpac pretty good for me then because I will be flying sing airlines more often.
Will have a look into it.

I am not so sure on this.

Is it not that Westpac Amex Gold earns 1 points per $, but that Westpac VISA /MC erans onlu at 0.5 making Westapc VISA?Mc less than Citibank VISA.

Maybe you have a Wstpac Platinum Amex???...though VISA /MC would still earning at 0,5/$ prior to conversion.

Westpac earns 1 point per $ spent, but the conversion rate to krisflyer is 2 points for 1 krisflyer point, so not that great.

What the upside with the platinum card is: there are no points cap or expiry - so if you are a big income earner who maxes out the points cap on other cards like the citibank platinum cba platinum etc etc, then this is the card for you.

Also, the fact that hardly any cards do direct transfers to krisflyer (All I can think of are the westpac, amex, citibank and anz) then this is a good deal...

Yes, I was comparing Platinum cards. My apologies for the confusion. WBC Altitude Amex earns 3 points / $ = 1.5 SQ points.

I guess there is no one combination that is best but depending on individual spending pattern & FF programs one wishes to use.
