Kowloon (Hong Kong) Hotel advice/opinions

Hi all,

Looking for opinions on the following hotels for Kowloon. Ie, any specific reasons why I should or shouldn't stay at any of these and which would you pick.

* Langham Kowloon
* Langham Place Mongkok
* Kowloon Shangri-La
* Intercontinental Grand Stanford
* Hyatt Regency
* Sheraton Hotel & Towers

Also, noticed with the Langham Kowloon, some of the rooms included free access to the pool. Is the implication then that the basic rooms don't get pool access?

Reason for stay is a holiday. Proximity to public transport is a bonus. Will be staying another 4 nights after at the Conrad, hence figure I'll give the Kowloon area a whirl for the first four nights.

Stayed at Langham Place Mongkok previously. Close to transport, markets etc. Great service.

Stayed there in April.

Great location ... but if you are using the airport express you will need to change trains ... which is easy. Just get an Octopus card for your public transport trips. Well worth it.

Or the limo service if budget allows from airport to hotel is what we like to do and take the train back.

A club room is well worth it ... the club lounge serves up real Champagne and the nibbles are substantial and high quality. We had the option of breakfast in lounge or main restaurant. The lounge is open 24/7. We got our monies worth i.e would pop up and just grab a few bottles of drink to take with us on the day out etc, drank too much booze and ate too much. Views are excellent.

They often run a 3 for 2 promo (pay 2 nights, get 3rd free). So takes the edge of it.

Re the pool ... I can't say. But it did appear everyone got access. Just call the hotel and check. The pool is very nice on the roof top. We used it at the end of each day.

Overall, staff were excellent and service top notice.

Have stayed at various hotels in Kowloon over the years, last few at Marco Polo Gateway, nice club floor.

Recent stay at the I/C Grand Stanford. Excellent room (upgraded to a suite), Club lounge VG (Moet on check-in and during evening nibbles, excellent breakfast fare), free frequent shuttle to/from Star Ferry area. Great staff.

Thanks for the responses so far.

Also noticed with the Langhams, if you book directly they over a 3G wifi hotspot for the duration of your stay. Seems like a nice touch and in stark contrast to hotels that still want to charge you for in-room internet. I'm looking at you Sheraton and Hilton groups

+1 for Langham Place. Spacious rooms, fantastic service. Sits right on top of a MTR station so you're all set for getting around town

Love the Langham Place. Stayed there in March. The Club is wonderful.

This delightful set up is the club room for kids! Plus the latest games consoles.



The rooftop pool.



The wonderful mall next door.

Just a few more questions. Has anyone been to both the Langham Place and The Langham in Kowloon? Comparison?

Also, has anyone used the free 3G WiFi access points they offer? Any comments on them?

I haven't stayed at the other Langham but the wifi access was so good that I streamed radio from Australia while there.

You gave a specific list, so maybe this isn't appropriate, but consider the Mira Hotel , especially if the words 'a bit funky' take your interest.

On Nathan Road, directly opposite Kowloon Park and close to a MRT station. The Executive floor, and its service, is as good as I have ever experienced in such facilities.

ps there are about 2 high quality restaurants in the hotel - the buffet in the trip report is great, though.

Just on the topic of executive/club lounges, I'm sort of wondering if I'm better off without one. Once you have access I tend to feel the need to make use of it. Without it, it encourages more exploration of other venues to eat and drink it. Decisions decisions....

Oh yes, but it is so nice to flop into when you come back from a day's sightseeing and planning where to go to dinner . And very handy if you have to check out an inconvenient hour or two before you need to head off to the airport.

I just looked at the Langham and I must say it looks pretty good; a bit cheaper than the Mira on a few test dates I tried.

Is it on the Airport Express mini bus route from Kowloon station?

Again for those who have has club lounge access at the Langham Place Mongkok. According to the list if club lounge privileges it mention Champagne Breakfast Sundays, but no mention of breakfast in general. So...is there daily breakfast in the lounge or not?

Yes. Choice between the lounge or The Place downstairs. Where breakfasts are everything you could think of.

The Club serves breakfast, snacks all day, afternoon tea, hot canapés. Alcohol and soft drinks and tea/coffee all day. Champagne during coughtails session.

They also put little treats in your room. I'll put photos in next post.

This was day 1. Cooling eye mask, rubics cube and jellybeans.

Day 2 was a back roller.

Day 3 - can't remember.

Plus treats to eat.

Another thing with lounge access ... we had to check out extended to 2pm but still had the late flight back to Oz.
So we checked out in our swimmers .... took our HLO upstairs to the pool. Left our luggage in the lockers. Had a swim, relax, shower and get ready for journey home.
But we still had access to the lounge until 'departure'. So we went to the lounge, had a refreshment, a sit down then departed. All very civilised.
