Glad you enjoyed your stay at KK. It's my home town!
Did you get a chance to visit any of the islands?
In fact, I just got back from KK yesterday.

Unfortunately no, we kept it quite low key this time as my wife is pregnant. Our main aim was to relax and we succeeded in this. :)

I will have 2 free days in KK in July...we are planning to hire a private boat for 1 day to visit the various islands and do some private snorkelling etc...what do you recommend we do on the other day? Any restaurant recommendations? We would have already viisted the orangutan resort at Sepilok prior to arriving at KK.

Take a day trip to Kinabalu National Park and do the canopy walk? Visit the Australian Death March Memorial which is nearby.
Or to really get out, go to visit The Tip of Borneo but this will really take a FULL day!

Restaurants? Geez! I don't know the names, I just go there (local boy)!! For seafood, Ocean Village next to Promenade Hotel, Grand Port View at Waterfront or Alu Alu Restaurant near Jesselton Point. (tends to be a bit expensive nowadays as they were spoilt by the Chinese tourists)
The Ox tail dish at Hyatt Hotel is not to be missed! Bak Kuh Teh across Jesselton Hotel, 5 Star Chicken Rice at City Mall.
PM me if you need further info.
