The Koru Club angel certainly has some discretion, last year a colleague and I were travelling from AKL to PER when I had a change of plan and had to return to MEL which meant me on QF her on NZ. Went to the KC, explained the story and showed my DJ platinum card - my colleague was welcomed as my guest even though I then went to the QF F lounge!

Was quite impressed with the lounge yesterday morning. Good hot food, inclding eggs, snags and beans. Huge array of juices. Coffee machine spat out coughpy coffee though. I was temoed by the self serve spiruts, but decuded the ungodly hour dudn't call for it.
Oh, and what's with the seat pitch on Air NZ's A320? I haven't git the rego no, but it was painted in black. Auckland to Wellington 6pm service. It must have been 34inches. Very roomy and very comfy.

What seat did you have? 1-3 A/B/C - 1 -2 D/E/F they are 34"-35"?

It's 30" toward the back.

10B. No way on the world there was 30in. Even my 12yr old Commented and even managed to curl up into a ball in 10a and sleep through take off.
Your seat pitch is noted as 33".

Check the AirNZ seat map link I provided - if you mouse over each seat a pop-up with statistic on the seat appears.

Note that on the left side (A/B/C) the smallest pitch in rows 1-12 is 33", on the right side (D/E/F) only rows 1-3 have 34", 11 & 12 have 33".

All other seats are listed at 30" - as an AirNZ Gold Elite, I have never sat further back than row 3.

As an aside: As a VA platinum i've found my seating options on NZ are much more generous ex NZ where checkin is handled by NZ themselves than ex MEL where the handling is done by Qantas (or staff in a Qantas uniform). I probably need to fly a few more times to get a decent sample size but the QF ground staff don't seem particularly generous to VA elites on NZ. :)

Thanks for the info. Obviously explains that it was 33in - i wasn't far off. Wonder if i got that because of being Virin Gold?

All the pre-seating is done by actual Air NZ staff in MEL/SYD/BNE etc etc, QF just check-in the flight.

I always seem to have trouble with Air NZ staff in Melbourne!

Never have a problem with staff anywhere else, so it's not my attitude/appearance..

Just rude Qantas staff working for NZ

Isn't that just the case everywhere? That's why Qantas Intl is going down the gurgler. Exposed to real competition, I'm afraid. They'll die out like the dinosaurs...

When travelling in Works Deluxe earlier this year, Air New Zealand's quirky online seat allocation wouldn't allocate myself and my wife anything other than seats across the aisle (1C/1D) or one behind the other (1A/2A), despite there being no other occupied seats in the cabin. 'Across the aisle' isn't really across the aisle in the NZ A320s due to the staggered seats. So I figured I'd get it corrected at checkin. The QF ground staffer spent several minutes trying to allocate us into A/B, B/C, C/D or D/E pairs. I reminded him several times that the middle seats in Works Deluxe are blocked but he still said "the system won't allow me to put you together." I asked for an A/C or D/F allocation - "NZ policy is not to leave unnecessarily empty middle seats like that". I gave up at that point.

The Koru Club staff, without prompting, moved us into a D/F pair and issued new boarding passes.

I would have given up too - but I would not have had this issue in the first place. (But then again I have been AirNZ Elite for 5 years now.)

[To explain to those who are not aware (like the check-in agent), with Works Deluxe on NZ 320's only the A/C/D/F seats are allocated as "Works Deluxe" passengers get an empty seat beside them - the 320's are 3x3 'economy' seating all the way with extra pitch in the first few rows]

When you have this sort of seating issue with an AirNZ flight you simply call them after booking and get them to manually allocate the seats. Once done it shows up on line and all is sweet.

I am an Air NZ gold member flying on Air Pacific from Syd/Nadi/LAX economy on Jan 20th and was very disappointed to find I can only use the lounge if I am flying on a Star Alliance carrier. Thought that when you got to gold you go automatic access?? Is anyone else going to be in Sydney that could "guest" 3 adults to the lounge?
