Just returned from LHR via HEL-HKG with AY and CX in J. Both airlines use real knives -- made of metal, like the tube we're flying in. Perhaps I was dozing, but I didn't see anyone pick one up and threaten cabin crew....

Is QF still playing sook with plastic knives? Last time I used them (Sept) they were.

What is their justification? As Mandy Vanstone once memorably remarked, she could easily smash a glass and hold it to someone's throat much more effectively than if she used a not-very-sharp metal knife.

Metal knives are back (domestically, I know) on QF! (in places where they used to be).

Yeah, I've been having metal cutlery both domestically and international since mid December, BUT not on every flight. Seems that QF is using up all the old plastic stock! You get a tease then they sock it right back at you! Hopefully things will be civilised full time soon!:)
