A Bolivian man tried to enter the gate area Tuesday at Los Angeles International Airport with a knife hidden under the sole of his shoe, officials said.
Sergio Luis Facio, 38, told Los Angeles World Airport police officers that he had bought the shoes from a street vendor in Bolivia.
Facio, of LaPaz, Bolivia, said he did not know there was a knife in his shoe, airport police Sgt. Belinda Nettles said.

so strange is could be true? :shock: Having come across a few odd South American things myself.

But I don't believe it.

Assuming they didn't let him travel that day, sans shoes, they could fingerprint the knife, and him and if his prints were on the knife... or if they weren't. Not conclusive, but better than nothing.
