Klout announced a new partnership with American Airlines Tuesday that allows influencers with a Klout score over 55 to access 37 of the airline’s Admirals Clubs in 22 different cities, regardless of whether or not they’re flying American.

Interesting choice of marketing tactic from AA. Not entirely sure it'll be as successful as they want it to be though...

Great idea. Can see this back-firing though if the visit isn't up to scratch. I'm sure they don't want "influential" people moaning and coughing about the lounge experience.

I've got a Klout score allowing me to take advantage. I don't neeeeed to, but maybe I will just to get something out of Klout besides $20 off something I'd never buy in the first place.

My guess is that if someone doesn't already have lounge access, then they will be positive in their appreciation of a first-time visit. By and large, the Admiral's Clubs are reasonable lounges, some better than others, but none of them worse than actually sitting outside in the terminal. Some of them are very good, and I'm thinking of the lounge at Heathrow here.

I don't know what other American carriers do with their lounges, but I can't imagine that they would be vastly better than AA.

Like Qantas handing out lounge invitations to PS FFs, this promotion would be aimed at giving a taste with the reasonable expectation that some first time guests would increase their level of participation so as to enjoy more of the facilities. Any American traveller without lounge access is eventually going to get sick of balancing on a stool at Starbucks or waiting in rows at the gate. A bit of peace, a bit of comfort, a bit of security, free papers and drinks - what's not to like?
