I know when I travel, even on short journeys, the in-flight meal is often the only meal available to me so I make the most of it. Eating during a flight is an efficient use of travel time in my view. Then again, a decent selection of sangas can make a suitable lunch meal.

From news.com.au:

TAXPAYERS are forking out thousands of dollars to ensure Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is served a gourmet three-course meal on every RAAF VIP flight.

After an angry and hungry PM reduced a flight attendant to tears over food provisions, every RAAF flight must now carry a full in-flight meal service, including a hot dish, even on a 30-minute Sydney-to-Canberra shuttle.

Well at least KR is not in as much trouble as Gordon brown. Here in Florida we get all the British Tabloids-makes our daily Telegraph look respectable.
However politicians lifestyles are different to the rest of us.There are many fund raising or business breakfasts.lunches and dinners that surely KR is not expecting to eat on every flight.Surely a little cooperation with his office and the RAAF would be in order-or is this his own personal stimulus package?

I'm not saying that this is the right thing to do by taxpayers, but it does help to keep things in perspective. When your job involves a LOT of flying around, you may not have the opportunity to eat properly. It's not as if the Prime Minister leads a normal life where he just comes home every night and Therese has made him a nice home cooked meal.

In the same position, I'd probably ask for there to be a decent meal waiting for me on every flight too.

On a thirty minute CBR-SYD flight? Barely time to get airborne, pour some coffee and land again - on that basis they could probably justify serving dinner on the drive from MEL to the CBD.

I think this is more beat up of a nonissues mixed with a hint of some disgruntled people in with the RAAF VIP section who have been smacked for upsetting the PM or people in KR's office who have been smacked for not organising the RAAF.

Perhaps we should insist that he whips the limo through the McDonalds Drive-thru on the way to the airport .

Well e probably has a quicker ride from the Airport than I do so - mind you I dont have an 8 car/bike escort so maybe only time for a soft serve cone...

This is another story in itself - "Kevin07 supports FAT" would be the headlines in tomorrows media and anti-FAT groups would be critical etc.

Maybe he needs to drive-thru at KFC (Kevin's Fattening Club) ;).

Has anyone here flown with the PM on the official aircraft?.... now that would be an interesting trip report.

I've flown near John Howard on a QF flight back from London once ;)

Ensuring every flight is fully stocked, including the 30 minute SYD-CBR flights, is way over the top and wasteful. But don't we elect politicians so they can waste our money anyway?
