So for P1's not flying, the 1,800 SC contribution is a nice boost. And of course need 450 SC on Qantas flights.

So it made me think - how far can you get to closing the gap (1,350 SC) through on-the-ground offers

Potential: 1,175 SC (gap of 175SC!)
+900 SC (up to) through monthly boosts
+125 SC through Qantas Luxury Hotels ("max 100 per booking, 125 max for campaign)
+75 SC Qantas Premier Platinum credit-card
+75 SC ANZ Black Visa

Expired: 100 SC
+10 SC joining BP Rewards
+40 SC by earning 4,000 Qantas Points at BP (2,000L of ultimate fuel, 4,000L of normal fuel, $1/dollar spent in store)
+50 SC Woolworth Rewards (expired)

What else am I missing?

Wouldn't you receive either the 1800SCs (50% of requirement) OR the monthly boost? Not both?

They are separate things (Status Boost vs Status Support). Everyone gets the boost, some people also get the monthly support (depending on when their membership year ends).

To the OP, I don't think you've missed any of the status credit earning opportunities on the ground so far.

Not sure I completely understand your maths. Have you already earned 450 SCs on QF flights?

If not, based on the status boost / monthly boost my understanding of breakdown would be:

- 50% one off: 1,800
- monthly boost: 900 (these count towards the QF SC requirement but not the ~ and only those with Mar YE will get the full 900)
- QF Hotels: 125
- QF CC: 75
- ANZ CC: 75

Total: 2,975

Therefore the remaining SC required to meeting the 3,600 requirement would be 625 (potentially reduced by a further hundred from anyone that can take benefit from BP and WW rewards).

If I were Platinum or Platinum One with Qantas right now - I'd sit back and do nothing.

The wave of once-in-a-lifetime deals, status matches, and travel organisations wooing you with shiny objects over the coming 6,12,18 months will blow your mind.
I wouldn't make any attempt at all in trying to retain status. Qantas will have no choice but to retain you at Platinum One with all the goodies that are just around the corner. In my opinion, coming out of the gate so generous so early on will hurt Qantas in the medium AND long term.

Sit back and enjoy the show!

You sound so sure about things... sounds like you have an insider's perspective!

I agree totally with TTR. It makes a lot of sense. QF (like all loyalty scehemes of airlines, hotels etc) will bend over backwards over the next few years as (when.. if...ugh) things get back to some sort of normal for people to earn. They want to dangle the carrots for us to increase our discretionary spend and make it easier. I totally agree to do nothing (well being in MEL that's pretty much a given :) ) and just see where the chips fall over the next few years. I definitely think there will be more juicy deals, StatusKeeper type payments and the like. I would be more surprised if there weren't!

Nothing insider about it. As RichardMEL suggests, it's a logical step for Qantas.
Virgin 2.0 may also provide motivation for QF to pull out even more shiny cards.

Qantas will struggle in the future.

This still doesn't explain why Qantas refused to upgrade people that were 10-20 status credits short of Gold or Platinum back in April/May but couldn't fly the final status credits. Multiple people that were in a similar situation have contacted me and they are all furious with Qantas. I suspect they'll be quite happy not to be loyal to Qantas again in the future.

I understand the sentiment re not upgrading people and people being upset, but the challenge would be where does QF draw the line and is it different for different status levels? Is it 10, 20, 30 SCs? Then you would have people who were 'only' 40 SCs away saying they missed out. Maybe those within a certain percentage of the status level would have been appropriate (i.e. those that had achieved 95% the required SCs for the next level would get bumped up). There are always going to be people that feel like they missed out with something like this with not having the same membership year for all.

Personally I wouldn't worry about chasing PI or any other status level. Flying these days no matter what class your flying in is an absolutely miserable experience.

5 weeks ago I flew back from Asia business class, basically you just pay for the seat. Service virtually non existent Which is understandable. Cabin crew in full hazmat suits, face mask had to be worn at all times.

A couple of weeks ago flew to Perth from Sydney, business. I have an exemption to enter WA. Once again the flight was basically just a seat. The following are just observations, not complaints. Business lounge more or less the same, except very quiet which was a plus. On the plane, no WIFI, no entertainment, no headphones, no welcome drink, no pillow, the magazine pouch cleaned out, the food service was only about 5 minutes, I never eat on the plane so don't know what the food was like.

So in a nutshell flying is a miserable experience, cabin crew treat you as if your a leper, or about to give them COVID-19, so personally flying is over for me for the time being. I'm lifetime gold anyway so cant go below that.

And don't forget that you still need to fly 4 sectors a year on QF metal to requalify.

Looking further afield, I haven't seen an avalanche of irresistable hotel deals since restrictions have eased to help me spend my discretionary funds.

I tend to agree with @trippin_the_rift and @RichardMEL and am just going to sit back and see what happens. My roll over is at the end of this month so with the initial 1800SC bost and then a couple of 150SC payments I would only need 1500SC to retain my P1. That being said on any normal year this would not be an issue, however with QFi being closed until March/ April (whatever the latest update is) and with main domestic travel being in out out of MEL I cannot see that happening this year even 1500SC earn may be a struggle. Also given the organisation I work for have realised that work still goes on with staff WFH or minimal attendance at the office I suspect that all future work travel both international and domestic will be significantly reduced.

If QF do something again that would be of benefit that would be appreciated but to be honest I don't really care. I have not had to go to an airport, set foot on a plane or stay in hotels since mid March and am quite enjoying and becoming used to not having to travel.

IMO it's not yet time for that. Things are so variable.. I mean look just today QLD has declared greater Sydney a hot spot and thus forget getting in.

I reckon QFF will wait for things to become far more settled and there is certainty about regular travel for all for the really juicy deals...

... and that seems further and further away as the days pass
