Hi All,

Before I ask my question, it's probably best I introduce myself. From Perth, QF NB with purchased QP (which I know is a touchy issue here!). Love the whole flying experience, but don't have a job which requires any travel (yet). Try to get away a few times a year, unfortunately not enough to make Silver. I've got a lot out of AFF so far, especially the whole concept of maximising RTW fares in respect to status credits. I did a RTW last year which was 60SC away from Silver, and (due to time issues) had 9 legs left over. Definately kicking myself for a missed opportunity! Also interesting to read about HLO travel, and will give it a go for a PER-CBR r/t coming up in September. Not much of a challenge I know, but a start nonetheless.

Anyway, to my question: What should I expect (if anything) from the regional lounge at Kalgoorlie? Anything like the other domestic lounges, or just some nice seats and a computer?

Welcome to AFF

I cant comment on the regional at Kalgoorlie - one of my small handful of unsampled lounges, but dont expect too much!

Mr!

:)

Hi,

Very small lounge which can be VERY crowded due to the mining FIFO crowd.

Sometimes I think more people are in the lounge than out of the lounge.

Welcome to AFF dejium! Nothing wrong with purchased QP :)

Welcome to AFF dejium! It is a rather small lounge with decent seating and a small fridge stocked with beer/juice/cheese etc. and some dry packaged food also. Enjoy:!:

dejium,

Welcome to AFF.

The good thing about AFF is that you can still do what you like even if someone else thinks something 'is a touchy issue here!' as you put it. ie you can use the information provided as you see fit and it is nobody else's business.

What works for one is often different for others. ;)

Thanks everyone for the responses. As long as it has beer and a snack - something to clear out all that red dust - I'll be ok. I'm only heading up for the weekend next week - Friday to Sunday. Hopefully I can miss any FIFO changeovers.

Thanks again!

Dejium,

I've been there a few times.. It is tiny!! i actually missed it the first time, the entrance is right next to the check in. It realistically only seats about 10-15 people before it's overcrowded!! but yes they have beer in the fridge and cheese and biscuits.. if you are hungry the bar/take away place in the main airport isn't too bad!

Cheers,

Nick

Hi dejium, welcome to AFF.

The KGI lounge is located landside, not airside. This means that when you are getting close to boarding, you should leave time to go through security screening.

Apart from that, as everyone said, it's a pretty small lounge. Only enough seating for about 10-15 people; there is a door that allows you to go outside and get some fresh air (but you can't walk out onto the tarmac, obviously). There are two computers. No showers. A small selection of light snacks (bikkies, crackers (in packets), cheese, I think Tim Tams), non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks (a couple of beers, white and red wine) - all self-service.

Hi dejium, welcome

Hi All,

Paid QP is fine, only a touchy issue when we get onto the topic of who should be thrown out to reduce overcrowding. :D I'm learning to limit my outbursts of the matter ;)

They're probably the threads I've been reading. Some interesting solutions out there to solve the issue. Lack of investment in expanding lounges seems to be one factor - especially here in Perth (terminal too!). OT anyway.

Thanks anat0l about it being landside, I will keep that in mind. Cheers

Just an FYI for anybody heading up the the KGI lounge anytime soon. No PCs at the moment due to building works in in and around the lounge and terminal.

It was luckily very quiet for my return flight to PER last night - 3 people in the lounge (2 being my guest and I), and a total of 11 pax on a 737. Definately a first for me!
