Okay guys, just wanted to confirm that I've got the right idea on how flexi->J class upgrades work:

I am going to book 2x flexis for SYD-BNE this Saturday evening. All I have to do is ring them up tomorrow and they'll deduct the points from my account to upgrade us to business (space available)? Looks like a good deal considering its 50% less points this month to upgrade!

I'm surprising my partner with a quick romantic getaway -- so J class will be the best way to finish the trip!

A nice step up from "Is the flight full? We're standbys......"

There has to be upgrade seats available. If you ring to book the flexis they don't charge you anything extra because they are flexi fares, and they can look at that time to make sure there are upgrade seats available on the flight you are thinking, or give you other options.

At least that's how it worked for me today with the platinum desk - pretty sure anyone can do it because the service agent made the point of saying nothing extra to call and book because of them being flexi fares

Thanks! I booked the flights anyway because I need to be home for a 5am reserve and wanted to fly the last flight.
