Hi all.

I have just become Platinum after my flight to SE Asia. I have a return flight with QF back to aus in the next couple of days.
I have put my request in for a points upgrade, will i be considered as Gold because that is when i put the request in? Or will it update it self and treat me as a platinum traveler?
I obviously wont have my new card, will i still get access to the first lounges?

Thanks in advance.

I'm not entirely sure about the upgrade, but your boarding pass should have your new platinum status, which will allow you to access first class lounges. Where are you flying from? The only QF port in SE asia with a first lounge is HKG if I recall correctly.

Congratulations snooze on your newly gained status. Where are you based?

A couple of days should be enough time for the new status to work its way through the system, so you should be assessed as Plat BUT existing plats will be ahead of you in the upgrade 'queue' so your chances won't be the same as all others (but still possible :) ).

If you can, take a print-out of your on-line WP status with you just in case it hasn't propagated through to the BP system and to help satisfy lounge dragons if needs be.

The QF F lounge at HKG got enhanced into a good quality business lounge some time back, but as WP, the OP gets access to all OneWorld first lounges (except Qatar's at Doha) - ie the fantastic The Wing and The Pier at HKG, plus JALs in Japan ...

Thanks all for the advice. Its greatly appreciated.
Yes, flying out of HKG and i am looking forward to having access to The Wing. I did enjoy the QF lounge as Gold.

Thanks Cove! Based out of Darwin.

The Pier is better than the Wing IMHO, and worth the track out there and back, if needs be. But being an AFFer, no doubt you'll do both!

Definitely head to The Pier by gate 63 at HKG if you have the time. It's much better than The Wing and miles better than QF.

I avoid the QF lounge now, only going there right before a QF/BA flight departs as I like to be in the 'home' lounge in case of last minute boarding delays.

You can also use the EK lounge if it is open at the time of your flight.

Yep, the pier. Although they have gotten rid of the amazing pineapple cakes and I had pretty bad service last time I was in there.

I think I probably met Mrs 340 as she was about to leave the Pier F dining room to get to her flight.

It's a great lounge. It was my first visit. There were so many good choices on the menu. I ended up having the wonton noodles, the Angus Beef Burger and the Spaghetti alla Trapanese

Pier is fantastic for food and a nice bar
Wing is fantastic for an elusive Cabana if it can be obtained
QF has sensational staff, food is good for a J lounge and the bar makes a great Espresso Martini :D

I found QF staff the friendliest tbh but it can get busy prior to all those QF departures all clustered around 8pmish.
