This is getting hot on social media

The flight was cancelled/delayed from 2100hrs 24/1/23 until 1421hrs 26/1/23

Passengers left in KIX. Crew could not get to airport. Apparently the Kansai airport bridge was shut. Where did the JQ crew go?

How long did the lax actually stay in the terminal?

Severe weather (and here)did hit Japan around the 24,25th Jan

Muesli bars, blankets eventually arrived

I guess if the crew couldn’t make it neither did most of the passengers.

crew couldn’t make it
I'm not sure. The departing JQ16 pax did make it to the airport and got stuck there.

And presumably the arriving JQ15 pax must have gone somewhere. No news that there were also stranded at airport.

BTW the arriving flight JQ15 (CNS-KIX) was delayed in departure only arriving into KIX at 23:47 - 4:52 late and 2:47 past the scheduled departure of JQ16 (operated by the same aircraft

Question: were the JQ16 pax given the option to leave KIX to hotels as JQ suggested they were?.

"A Jetstar spokesperson said their crew were unable to reach the airport and customers were also unable to leave the airport."

“We will always put safety before schedule,” the Jetstar spokesperson said.
"Passengers have been given the option to stay in a hotel as well as cover the cost of meals and transport to and from the airport."

Depends if the bridge was open or closed as to whether people or crew could leave the Kansai Airport area, I seem to remember that there now is a hotel airport at Kansai and realize that the hotel may not have been able to accommodate all stranded pax at the hotel from all airlines, but does seem odd that JQ crew would not stay at the airport hotel at Kansai.

Must have been unusually cold to get snow and ice with winds in Osaka, but I guess it does happen. Seems pretty poor planning to have one sole road and rail bridge as the only way to and from the airport from Honshu, considering they have winter storms, summer typhoons, shipping nearby and the other risks of earthquakes and Tsunamis in that part of the world.
