From what I have heard all flights in and out DRW cancelled until the Weekend.

I assume they are facing some serious crewing problems?

They’ve been zeroed out (or actually sold out). VA has also done this.

Not QF (yet). Might be something to do with the runway, but I don’t see any NOTAMs yet.

The JQ flights to DRW from ADL, BNE, MEL & SYD for tonight are all cancelled, not just zeroed out. Also looks like the replacement flights (when JQ678 becomes JQ7678 the next day for example) they scheduled for tomorrow morning are all cancelled as well.

Must be a JQ problem. QF & VA flights to DRW tonight are still operating normally.

I just confirmed no Virgin seats for sale until Sunday.

Safe to say this is not a JQ only problem. Most likely emergency runway repair.

Not sure Boeing would be inspecting A320s
And why would they?

But Jetstar does have these planes.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner

Jetstar's international long-haul flights are serviced by a fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. The Boeing 787 also operates on selected Australian domestic routes.

Jetstar’s 787-8s are configured with 21 seats in Business and 314 seats in Economy when operating on Jetstar’s international services. On domestic services, all seats are Economy.

Jetstar Boeing 787-8 fleet specification

Number in fleet11 Jetstar Airways (JQ)

Most likely emergency runway repair.
I'd be putting my money this considering what happened back in May.

I know this is the JQ forum but it will be interesting to see if VA's DPS flights using DRW as a tech stop will be impacted.

School holidays and peak (dry) season as well. This will be a huge mess. Impeccable timing!

The BNE/SYD-DPS flights are on the ground in DRW right now. The MEL one passed through earlier too. And the normal VA services to Darwin tonight are still operating, as are the QF & TL services, yet all 4 JQ flights to DRW tonight are cancelled.

One small note is that it’s not just flights to DRW that VA have zeroed out. SYD-BNE isn’t available until Monday either. I’m flying on the Virgin Red eye tomorrow so I’ll see if I can ask someone at the airport about the Jetstar cancellations.

CNS-DRW-CNS has been cancelled today and I just heard of some pax that cannot get new Jetstar flights anywhere out of Darwin until 13 July!
6am flight operated by a Cairns based crew.

Not sure what’s with all the Darwin hate. I guess they are trying to protect the North QLD/South schedule or something.

That’s great and all, but wouldn’t you perhaps organize some charters or something. QF did say they had 2 Widebodies on standby. Isn’t that what they are for?

They have basically dumped 2000-3000 people in Darwin and come back next week. Pretty poor.

Booking.com showing only 3 hotels with rooms available tonight, at high prices. I wonder if Jetstar is paying for accommodation.

It doesn’t make sense to pull all the capacity from a single port. This is peak season for DRW, most flights are going out full.

None of this makes any sense.

Air North have a note on their site that E120 flights will be reduced due to covid impacts.

There's an article about the situation in NT News. Won't quote the full article as it is behind a paywall - but some relevant quotes.

From Jetstar:
A spokesman for Jetstar said the abrupt changes to holidaymakers’ travel plans were due to the “operational challenges” that forced them to cancel overnight services.

“We sincerely apologise for the frustration and disruption this has caused customers, especially during the school holiday period, and are working with our Northern Territory partners and stakeholders to explore every option to minimise the impact to customers’ journeys,” the spokesman said.

“Due to very full flights and few spare seats, some customers new flights may be up a few days after the original flight time,” the spokesman said.

Darwin Airport spokeswoman:
The spokeswoman cited ongoing staff shortages for the cancellations, saying they were having impacts on baggage collection, foot and beverage services and transport.

I might be wrong, but I think Jetstar overnights it’s Pilots in DRW on all red eye flights. Cabin crew don’t. I was reading on another site about no crew hotels organized, so that would make sense.

Otherwise just a high absenteeism on overnight flights with no standby crews available?

Your not wrong, seems a bit odd.

JetStar are not the flavour of the month in WA at the moment either.
